"U.S. military officials tell NBC News that the U.S. Army will court martial a lieutenant colonel who refuses to deploy to Afghanistan because he considers orders from President Obama to be "illegal."

Army doctor Lt. Col. Terry Lakin believes Obama does not meet the constitutional requirements to be president and commander-in-chief, because he believes (incorrectly) that Obama wasn't born in the United States.

Lakin refused this week to report to Fort Campbell, KY for deployment to Afghanistan, but instead showed up at the Pentagon, where he was confronted by his brigade Commander Col. Gordon Roberts, a Vietnam Medal of Honor recipient.

Lakin was informed by Roberts that he would face court martial, and his Pentagon building pass and government laptop computer were seized."

Good for the Army. The President's been the Commander-in-Chief (rightly or not) for over a year. Waiting until you're given orders to Afghanistan to drop the "Orders From You Are Illegal, Mr. Obama" card shows an element both of cowardice and fraud (he's been highly-paid as an LTC for that year-plus that the President's been "ordering" him to his desk job at the Pentagon that he evidently didn't have a problem with).

Toss the book at him.

It's not my opinion, I was just remarking on the quote "Terry Lakin believes Obama does not meet the constitutional requirements to be president and commander-in-chief" that even IF the President had been born in Kenya or Zimbabwe or on Pluto, he's the Commander-in-Chief. You don't like it? Don't wait until the SecArmy sends you to Afghanistan to bitch about it.

FTR, I think he is a valid Commander-in-Chief and born where he says he was. If that needed to be said. Though Minstrel might point out "How does he know? Who here remembers where they were born?"

I understand you're trying to be open minded and fair, BUT "if" is clearly out of the picture. Unless the secret society government has a time machine to make fake birth announcements in hawaii

I'm not sure I'd ask that. He says he was born in Hawaii because that's what his birth certificate says. I don't think he's claiming first-hand witness account as evidence. ;)

why would MSNBC stick "incorrectly" after stating what the man's beliefs are. pretty shitty journalism if you axe me.

Because where he was born is a matter of record. If you believe that Delaware is the state with the largest population, you believe so incorrectly.

the word "incorrectly" is unnecessary in a news story in reference to a belief, which is purely fictional and/or speculative to begin with. The use of the word makes this an editorial, not a news story.

Whether or not he was actually born in the United States is not an absolute fact.

That's cool.

Personally I think people are asking the wrong question, sure the real Obama was born in Hawaii but the Obama currently in office is obviously a pod person.

Nothing is an absolute fact, except mathematical truths. This is a recorded fact. Just like the year President Kennedy was shot and other such pieces of knowledge.

The "incorrectly" is probably for the benefit of readers who have been living under a rock, weren't aware of this issue before and think that there's an actual question about where Obama was born.

It would be an editorial if the writer had given an opinion. He or she didn't, they simply noted a recorded fact.

He's making a judgment call on one's beliefs. The question has never been answered really.

Remember, at one time Global Warming was an "absolute fact" for many in the media.

I think he's saying that the Obama thing is more of a "Jim Morrison is dead" kind of fact than a "Kennedy was shot" kind of fact.

But not as open to question as "Elvis is dead?"

Its like saying that:

Minstrel still believes (incorrectly) that 2pac is still alive.

then.....

I thought Denny was Elvis...

He's "Fat Elvis" (for the sake of not causing offense, let's for the sake of argument say I am not comparing body types)...I meant "young Elvis."

BUT THAT WOULDNT BE INCORRECT OMG

Totally agreed.

The Vietnam War ended in, 1976? I think the treaties happened around 1974 but the last personnel out of the Navy ships around there were in 1976.

Okay, I'm guessing. Anyway, one thing I do know is that it's now 2010, and 34-36 years have passed.

What are the chances that the only guy still on active duty won the Medal of Honor? I mean, you don't last more than 36 years unless you're a general, right?

P.S. I arrived in Hawaii when little Barry was 3 weeks old. I know he was there. I think I heard him screaming all the way from Aiea.

treaties were in 1973, everyone out by mid-1975.

I can see why this guy would be pissed at an officer refusing orders to a combat zone. Keep in mind, up until this point he'd already received the Silver Star and Bronze Star (you don't get those just for going 3 months without the clap):
Rank and organization: Sergeant (then Sp4c.), U.S. Army, Company B, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. Place and date: Thua Thien Province, Republic of Vietnam, 11 July 1969. Entered service at: Cincinnati, Ohio. Born: 14 June 1950, Middletown, Ohio. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sgt. Roberts distinguished himself while serving as a rifleman in Company B, during combat operations. Sgt. Roberts' platoon was maneuvering along a ridge to attack heavily fortified enemy bunker positions which had pinned down an adjoining friendly company. As the platoon approached the enemy positions, it was suddenly pinned down by heavy automatic weapons and grenade fire from camouflaged enemy fortifications atop the overlooking hill. Seeing his platoon immobilized and in danger of failing in its mission, Sgt. Roberts crawled rapidly toward the closest enemy bunker. With complete disregard for his safety, he leaped to his feet and charged the bunker, firing as he ran. Despite the intense enemy fire directed at him, Sgt. Roberts silenced the 2-man bunker. Without hesitation, Sgt. Roberts continued his l-man assault on a second bunker. As he neared the second bunker, a burst of enemy fire knocked his rifle from his hands. Sgt. Roberts picked up a rifle dropped by a comrade and continued his assault, silencing the bunker. He continued his charge against a third bunker and destroyed it with well-thrown hand grenades. Although Sgt. Roberts was now cut off from his platoon, he continued his assault against a fourth enemy emplacement. He fought through a heavy hail of fire to join elements of the adjoining company which had been pinned down by the enemy fire. Although continually exposed to hostile fire, he assisted in moving wounded personnel from exposed positions on the hilltop to an evacuation area before returning to his unit. By his gallant and selfless actions, Sgt. Roberts contributed directly to saving the lives of his comrades and served as an inspiration to his fellow soldiers in the defeat of the enemy force. Sgt. Roberts' extraordinary heroism in action at the risk of his life were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

I checked his wiki page. Seems that he got out after Vietnam to be a social worker, then volunteered for duty in the first Gulf War, and has been in since. Quick math says he's working on 22 years of Active Duty and isn't 60 yet (later on this year), so he's still legit as far as age/rank/tenure requirements go.

You might want to check out the following article from The Sunday Standard, June 27, 2004:

Kenyan-born US Senate hopeful, Barrack Obama, appeared set to take over the Illinois Senate seat after his main rival, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race on Friday night amid a furor over lurid sex club allegations.

I can't remember where I was born, I think I was too busy trying to figure out why I was being evicted.

You know that it was Ryan's wife, Jeri Ryan who was making those allegations.

Who needs a sex club when you could bang Seven of Nine anytime you want.

Obama was apparently very open about the fact that he was born in Kenya until he decided he wanted to run for President. Now THAT'S amazingly stupid.

You do know Shooty that if there were any truth to that at all the Clinton's would have disclosed this before the first primary.

And if they didn't McCain and the RNC would have.

So do you read the Sunday Standard often?
