<Insert May 1st NBA post here>

3 game sixes on May 1st:

Will the 8th seed Magic end the season for the #1 seed Pistons?

Will the Rockets force a game 7 in Los Angeles and a possible history-making comeback after being down 0-3 in the series?

It’s a bummer. Jokic vs Wemby would’ve been more fun.

Wemby vs Gobert + Julius Randle + Naz Reid + Jaden McDaniels might be more interesting. The problem for the Wolves will be on the perimeter without Anthony Edwards

I think Castle+Fox+Vassell+Harper+Johnson+Champagnie may just overwhelm the Wolves perimeter players

The Gobert trade was fair. He is an incredible defender. Every team he is on is a winner. Underrated.
the test of time often changes perspective. It seemed a high price the Wolves paid. It was to be sure, but Gobert has been great for them

for the Jazz though, this is what they got:

* Kessler and Keyonte George are good young players, but Kessler seems to be yet another big man who can't stay healthy. George is a solid scoring PG. Neither of these guys will be all-stars
-----------------
* Beasely & Vanderbilt (+Conley) were only in Utah for half of a season till they were traded for Westbrook and the Lakers 2027 first. Westbrook was immediately waived
------------------
* Bolmaro played 14 games and was then out of the NBA
-------------------
* Patrick Beverley was traded that summer for Talen Horton-Tucker who was a role player over 120 games for Utah. He's been out of the league this season
--------------------
* Utah won't exercise the option to swap picks in the upcoming draft
--------------------
the rights for Will Riley were traded for Walter Clayton who was a throw-in of the Jaren Jackson trade

so, for the Jazz they traded Gobert for Kessler + Keyonte George + 2027 Wolves pick + 2027 Lakers pick + 2029 Wolves pick. Kind of looks like trading a quarter for 5 nickels

In the NBA the quarters are worth a lot more than 5 nickels. Unless you already have a couple quarters.

The Rudy Gobart trade is a perfect example as of why some teams should take a big risk when doing trades. The Wolves mortgaged some future but it didn’t seem to hurt them all that much.

Should the Blazers be interested in Aaron Gordon if he becomes available?

Pistons looking like the Hawks yesterday, except they're the #1 seed! Meanwhile the Magic are doing a Jimmy-Butler-Heat impression. Guess trading for Bane was the right move.

Jalen Duren was so close to securing a big contract, too.

The 1 and 2 seed of the east could both be eliminated in the first round. That would have to be a first for that?

AI says yes it would be a first.

In the NBA Eastern Conference, the #1 and #2 seeds have never been eliminated in the first round in the same season

Key Facts on Top Seed Upsets:
  • 1-Seed Eliminations (East): The No. 1 seeded Eastern Conference team has lost in the first round twice: 2012 (Bulls to 76ers) and 2023 (Bucks to Heat).
  • 2-Seed Upsets: There have been five instances of a No. 7 seed beating a No. 2 seed since 1984.
  • Historic Rarity: It was noted as a potential historic anomaly if both top seeds in a conference were to be eliminated in the opening round, a scenario that has not occurred in modern playoff history
Another search said the #1 had lost to the #8 Three times:
Yes, a #1 seed has lost to a #8 seed in the Eastern Conference NBA Playoffs, and it has occurred three times in total since the 16-team format began in 1984. The most recent instance was in 2023 when the Miami Heat defeated the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Eastern Conference 8-over-1 Upsets:
  • 1999: #8 New York Knicks defeated #1 Miami Heat (3-2 in a best-of-five lockout season).
  • 2012: #8 Philadelphia 76ers defeated #1 Chicago Bulls (4-2).
  • 2023: #8 Miami Heat defeated #1 Milwaukee Bucks (4-1). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Anyway, in 1999, 2012, and 2023, the Eastern Conference #2 did not lose to the 7th seed.

As I said that, Detroit started making a run lol

That would be crazy tho

I don't think the Magic will come back at this point. We'll see if this epic choke carries over into game 7.
