Australian baseball player killed by Oklahoma teens -- just because

A random act of violence has left a promising 22-year-old college baseball player dead, a family devastated and two countries half a world apart rattled.

Christopher Lane, who's from Australia, was gunned down in Duncan, Oklahoma, while he was out jogging last week. The motive, police say? Three teens who had nothing better to do.

"They witnessed a young man run by on the street. Chose him as the target," Police Chief Danny Ford told CNN affiliate KSWO.
When police eventually arrested the three teens -- ages 15, 16 and 17 -- one of them offered up a motive that made clear that Lane, who attended East Central University on a baseball scholarship, was chosen at random.
"He said the motive was, 'We were going to kill somebody,'" Ford told Australian radio station 3AW.​

Just like the mom who was shot while walking her kid the stroller or the man that was beaten in St. Paul. All 3 of these are examples of horrific crimes. All 3 also are examples of our police and justice system working. The majority of the anger over the Trayvon case wasn't that a black kid was killed, or even that he was killed by a "white" man. The anger was stemmed from the the fact that the system seemingly failed. After 5 hours, Zimmerman was released from custody and if it wasn't for some national articles and protests, that would have been the end of it. The furor is that if the roles were reversed and the shooter was black, there would have been a hell of a lot more investigating before the police would believe his self defense story.


All of you making these threads about horrific black on white crime, please show me a case where the killer is known, has admitted to the shooting, is in custody and then is released (with no intention of continuing the investigation) because he claims self defense. Until you do, all you're doing is posting examples of horrific crimes that everyone (including the Sharptons and Jacksons of the world that you hate so much) agrees deserve serious punishment for.

the only reason George Zimmerman wasn't charged was because there was really no evidence to charge him with. Everything came up clean on him and corroborated with his version of events. He was attacked. He shot in self defense.

The real crime is that he was arrested and put on trial.

This, on the other hand, was probably pretty easy to catch the perps and they probably had evidence to arrest him.

This story hit me pretty hard this morning. Here is a guy who is doing everything the right way, has so much promise for the future and it all ends because because these three just decide they want to kill someone that day. There is no fairness involved in this in any way shape or form. It's times like this I wish I was religious so I can think there might be some kind of justice involved here for both the victim and his family and the three "kids" But all I feel when I think about this story is anger and emptiness.

I really didn't want to bring up the Trayvon case. It's over. Even though he's free, Zimmerman's life will never be the same. But these constant postings of horrific crimes are meant to some how show bias against crimes against whites, when in fact they are not similar to the Trayvon case at all. Regardless of your opinion in the Zimmerman case, it was a very complicated situation, which leads to complicated and diverse reactions. As for this example it is just a simple, but very brutal, acts of violence that everyone can agree deserves the maximum punishment possible (aside from life vs death penalty debate).

Yah, this is where I struggle in understanding "God" and "higher powers". If there is a great and almighty God, then how does senseless shit like this happen day after day?
