We follow your wife on IG.
She started the game trying to run the offense and get teammates involved... But so many turnovers and girls missing due to being nervous about playing the state champs. It got out of hand early so she just started letting it fly in the 2nd half.Obviously stat chasing! My kinda’ player!!!

Have you seen the number of kids they have? They've been having a ton of fun for a while now!I bet you and your wife are having a ton of fun.

It's a blast. Had planned on leaving the L&C game at the end of the 3rd quarter to make it to Tigard High School in time to watch Al and Liv's game start. But it was so close after 3 quarters we just couldn't leave.Have you seen the number of kids they have? They've been having a ton of fun for a while now!
Interesting take on the Tualatin program in general. And discouraging to hear that absolutely nothing has changed in thirty plus years. My youngest son played AAU/Elite/Whatever they call it now basketball in the West Linn/Wilsonville system in the early to mid nineties. Playing Tualatin was always a dreaded ordeal, NOT because they were good (they seldom were) but because of the shitty attitudes and incredibly poor sportsmanship shown by players, coaches and parents. Their attitude was always, "no blood, no foul". And when they lost it was the fault of the refs. It was appalling and always came close to fisticuffs. Eventually we just avoided playing them unless it was in a tournament on neutral grounds. It's sad that they haven't learned anything over the years. Living in Wilsonville pretty much means Tualatin is our next door neighbor. But fuck 'em. No way I'd ever root for a bunch of angry, soreheads.....It's a blast. Whitman scored the first two buckets of the 4th, then L&C went on like a 12-4 run to take control. such a great feeling. And everyone contributed. 4 players had double figures, and Bella (who hasn't been playing more than a minute per game) hit a huge go ahead 3 then got a huge block on the next possession. Probably played her best 4 minutes of college basketball. Two of our fresman led us in scoring, while Kait and Lauren (our leading scorers for the season) were productive as well.
Super exciting.
Stayed just long enough to give the team fives on the way off the court before we ran to the car. The wife got the stream going on the cell phone just in time for the 1st quarter to start so we could keep up on the way. OC stepped on them early. Got to the high school game just in time for the 2nd quarter.
Everybody played well.
L&C plays Whitworth at Pamplin today at 3.
Looking forward to more great attitude and effort. I love that both of the teams are falling into the same mentality of our daughters. Just supporting each other and bringing the great effort.
For example, OC played the state champs last game (Tualatin) and we really got dominated. But the team just kept playing. Liv got hot and we outscored them in the 2nd half. We couldn't match up with their size and skill, but the girls just kept working hard and lifting each other up.
By the end of the game the Oregon City Girls were smiling and slapping fives. Helping the other team up when they fell. At least trying. Help was often rejected.
They said it felt like Tualatin had lost. They were all so down on themselves. Our girls were being positive and trying to get back within 35. Then 30. Trying to win the next defensive possession. Then the next offensive possession.
They said losing didn't hurt as bad as it did last year, even though we already have nearly as many wins as we had all last season. And they kind of felt bad for Tualatin being so down on themselves. Their coach screaming at them...
But OC was just supporting each other. celebrating what they could and trying to win the next play.
It's taken a long time for them to make situations like that for their teams (and get coaches who would allow it). This is what it's supposed to be like. Super happy for them. Super proud that they are helping build that kind of chemistry on their teams.
We've known a lot of those players for years. Trained with a lot of them. Good people. Sounds like they despise the coach, but people still transferred in to play with their bigs. They were solid before the players transferred in, but not state championship level.Interesting take on the Tualatin program in general. My son's coach was Steve Arena, who was a longtime KATU sports anchor. He was (and still is) a class individual. It says a lot about the Tualatin kids, coaches and parents that they would act so childishly and stupid in front of a guy who could have burned them to the ground publicly. But then, the world is full of Karens and Kevins........That Steve kept it classy and set a good example for my kid was highly appreciated. We've known a lot of those players for years. I'm glad they're finding success, but I wouldn't want to deal with that to win a state championship.
Having a good experience and building people up is just so much more rewarding.
We've definitely experienced our share of toxic coaching. My son's coach was Steve Arena, who was a longtime KATU sports anchor. He was (and still is) a class individual.
