<{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Anyone making more than $5mm needs to be good on both sides of the court. Barbosa is too bad a defender to warrant that paycheck. That's why he's being traded. Phoenix definitely needs him. It's not like they have a better back-up to Nash.
I've developed my pay scale for what different kinds of players should be worth:
Less than $5mm = a specialist. Does one thing very well (i.e. - rebounder, shooter, defender) or everything adequately.
$5-6mm = potential on both the offensive and defensive side, but not fully realized yet.
$7-8mm = very good on one end of the court and is good on the other.
$9-10mm = very good on both sides of the court.
$11-12mm = outstanding on one end and very good on the other.
$14+mm = outstanding on both ends of the court. A superstar.</div>Good scale, only description I disagree with is the $5-6M range. If you have potential, you either have a lot of it or not enough of it. No player with "potential" ever signs for $5-6M. That range is almost strictly reserved for veterans in their prime .
In this league, there are way too many players who are "good" in one area and are making $9-13M per year. Apparently in the eyes of the GMs being "good" at one thing qualifies you for making around $10M per year. Sickening.
