If you discredit Jaynes, you have to discredit someone like Barret

Man, you just can't stand any kind of positive thought process about the Blazers, even if it's backed up with facts, can you?

Never mind. I think we all had the answer to that question a long time ago.

Barret starting off with expressing Gratitude for his wife and children - in an article about the Blazers on a sports blog - tells you everything you need to know about the change in the state of the team over the last year.

Read between the lines: Umm, the current situation is a massive clusterfuck from where we were not too long ago - but hey - it could be worse. Your wife could hate you and be sleeping with your best friend; your kids could have diabetes AND kill puppies; and at least we are not the TimberWolves. Be thankful in this season of reflection.

Please.

yeah he all but says....

get ready for a rebuild. but hey his wife loves him.

I read it twice and didn't see anything about a membership to the jelly of the month club

The usual Soccer Moms will simply call him a hater, those of us that want hope will see it. It is a matter of perspective!

I have a certain amount of advent over how one John C will counter the story of the magic penny.

What a wonderful season, Christmas that is, it has been so far.

Go Blazers!

I think I will go slap my girlfriend in the face and then write her a letter telling her it was because I thought there was a black widow on her cheek.

My girlfriend will buy that about as well as most fans buy anything that MB says. I used to love how Steve Jones would tell it like it was. I wish there was someone on the broadcasts now that had a tiny bit of impartiality.

If there was, they'd be in the unemployment line!

Huh? What penny?

The penny he's talking about was from Canzano's column about how Whitsitt supposedly sold Paul Allen on a $20 million player's contract by putting a penny in the center of the table and saying that it represented that amount out of Allen's wealth. Mike Barrett says that he went to Whitsitt and the story is bogus.

Soccer moms? I guess I'm out of the loop except that he called me one in a response to one of my posts, so I'm guessing that's a reference to a homer.

Whatever.

I am lost. Penny? Soccer moms? WTF?

Another Vulcan insider tells a story about Whitsitt going to Allen with a trade and roster move that would cost the owner $20 million in combined salary and luxury tax. Instead of opening the pitch with that dollar figure, Whitsitt instead placed a single penny on a table in the center of a conference room.

The GM argued that $20 million represented about a penny in Allen’s multi-billion dollar portfolio.

Whitsitt got that move done, too. And so there’s a lesson buried in this for Cho, and for every general manager who will ever work under Allen as long as he owns professional sports franchises.

Thanks, guys. I hadn't heard the penny story. It sounds like pure bullshit. Even if Paul Allen is the 'accidental billionaire' he's still a really fucking smart guy. If I were him and one of my minions pulled that dis-respectful shit with me he'd be floating upside down on the bottom of the Puget Sound. Just sayin'.

:)

The GM argued that $20 million represented about a penny in Allen’s multi-billion dollar portfolio.

That story lacks something. $20 million is to Allen's wealth as a penny is to.... what?

The answer is $10. But what does $10 have to do with anything?

And are we really supposed to believe that Allen is so incapable of understanding his own wealth that he needs to think about a $10 bill instead?

Be afraid. Be very afraid. We had the same thought.

For the record, if I had $10.00 to spend for the rest of my life, you would have to pry that penny from my cold, dead hands.

This the quote of the story that I can't honestly believe is true:
"If you would have told me before the season that we would have lost all of these players to injury, lost a huge influence and friend in Coach Luke, lost six fourth-quarter leads, and would be sitting at the .500 mark in late December, I probably wouldn't have taken it very well. But, you know what? I'm probably more excited about the future, right now, than I've ever been. "

I readily admit I am a pessimistic guy and I rarely think the future hold much promise.

But how can anyone in their right mind be more excited for the future of the team now then EVER before?
More then after they drafted Roy and LMA?
More then after they drafted Oden?

I was downtown the day after that draft when 8 thousand fucking people showed up to welcome Oden to Portland.
It sure seemed Mike was pretty excited that day.

It's quotes like the one above that make me assume Mike Barret is a lying sack of shit.
No way he was telling the truth there.

Either that or he is one seriously deluded man.

I agree it sounds like total BS. But who's to say Blazer fans weren't seriously deluded when Oden came to town and thinking we were instant contenders??? You never know, but maybe, Barrett knew we had a looong way yet to go.
