Fuck ya! I love baseball season for two reasons. 1) Its fuckin baseball season!!! 2) It either IS summer, or summer is right around the corner! Go ChiSox!

I like the fact baseball is a social game. One can sit in the sun, eat, keep score, chat baseball and watch the game, and it's all a nicely paced game. And, of course, there's a couple of trips to Safeco Field.
 
I love baseball because the mechanics of the game haven't really changed in over a century. In football, they've scripted every activity and play to the point where a boneheaded mistake generally loses games. In basketball, the players have grown in size and ability so the court is too small and the basket too low - compared to when the game was dreamed up.

Yet baseball, the 90 ft between the bases is still exactly the right distance to make stealing 2nd a close play. Or the 60'6" from mound to the plate doesn't need to be changed because the athletes are better (though they did lower the mound in the 1960s).

Blowouts are enjoyable because no lead is safe and because of the social nature of the game. Close games can be nail biters.

There's also a wealth of statistics beyond any other sport, especially if you go back more than 30 years.

I have to say that steroids... have dampened my enthusiasm a bit.
 
I'm a big baseball fan, but am more excited for this season than any I can remember in the past 5-10 years or so, and it's because of this man right here:

For those who don't know, it's Jason Heyward. Loved the nickname I saw recently on an ESPN chat, the Jay-Hey Kid. Stud.
 
Jason Heyward does look amazing. I love it when phenoms hit the majors, like Justin Upton, Matt Wieters or Heyward.
 
I am getting back into baseball for the first time in over 10 years. I stopped watching when I thought steroids were changing the game and everyone was talking about the baseball changing or bats or whatever. Yeah right.

Bret Boone was a perfect example. Good infielder who suddenly turned into an absolute monster! Led the league in RBIs, 37 HRs... then Canseco points the finger at him for steroids and his numbers drop like a rock and a few years later he is gone from the league.

Anyway... I am giving baseball another chance. M's and Redsox fan. I really have watched NO baseball... no playoffs... no World Series... nothing for about a decade. If feal lost with teams and players... but it will be fun to get back into it.
