Bayless and his future role

He seems like a perfect fit next to Roy but watching him I think he could be extremely valuable off the bench.

I think he can be Jason Terry for this team. One of the best sixth men in the League. He can draw fouls at will and get to the rim whenever he wants. He's instant offense and that's what he's best at.

I see him as the Barbosa of this team. But I have a feeling he won't be happy coming off the bench for much longer.

Bayless is 21. He won't be 22 until the offseason. I don't think there's any rush to define what he might be someday.

With that being said, I think it would be a mistake to limit him by thinking of him as a bench player. Would it be great if he evolved into one of the best sixth men in the league? Sure. Would it be BETTER if he were an above-average starter that blends in well with Roy? I would say yes.

I don't think Bayless is a starting PG yet. But as mentioned, he is young. He has shown development at tht PG position and I think can currently be considered a proven scorer.

He could very well be the future starting PG for the Blazers.

He'll have more of an opportunity to score coming off the bench. When Roy went to the bench Travis became that go-to-guy off the bench and thrived in that role. I see the same thing in Bayless.

All I know is I would only be willing to deal him if we got a player like Bosh in return. I value him pretty highly and think he can fit in next to Roy. His defense is pretty decent (although, he can be reckless at times), but he will learn. A line-up of him, Roy, Batum, Aldridge, and Oden is not only a stellar offensive lineup, but it is also a great defensive lineup if Bayless gets even better at this (it would seem Roy would be the weakest one, although, he is good when he wants to be making Aldridge possibly the worst) then that is great. But overall that would be an excellent line-up on both sides of the ball.

I think Miller has AT LEAST one more good year left in him.

The problem with Bayless starting anytime soon at PG is how will we know for sure if Nate jerks him around with Roy returning soon, I assume anyway. Assuming no trades are made, our log jam becomes even more crowded and as much as Nate as found a new trust for Bayless, I still think he is going to allow Blake to play and backup Miller. Then you have Rudy backing up Roy (whom will take many of the minutes at the 2 anyway), and then you have the 3 set with Batum/Martell. If Bayless goes back to playing very limited minutes or towel boy, it will be once again hard to tell what we have.

I find it surprising nobody brings up his defense. The offense is there good enough. It's his defense which I find refreshing. When Bayless is in the game, our bigs are much less liable to be exposed from the PG position.

He is reckless, yes, but he deserves some credit, which he rarely gets. I and hasoos seemed to be the only ones who realize he had shut down Paul when we played the Hornets last week (and no not shutting him down by fouling him constantly). It isn't crazy to think he can improve vastly in this area. He may foul a lot still, but at least he has proven in flashes he can be a good to great defender which is not something we can say for everyone on this team.

He's nowhere near as consistent in the clutch as Barbosa has been over the last couple of years (though this year he's sucking with injuries). Barbosa is an amazing shooter when on, and plays much more intelligent D. Bayless has potential to be a good defender, but is so hyper he's always out of position, some of the stupidest D in the NBA.

I think he would be happy to come of the bench if he gets the same minutes Jason Terry gets.

I see him as a starter, specifically on this Blazer team for several reasons.

His lack of great ball handling skills will be masked next to not only Roy, but Batum who is showing a point forward mentality and ability.

On Defense he and Batum can really protect Oden from getting in foul trouble. This is a very well balanced team with Roy as the superstar, LMA with the midrange game and lengthy switcher on D, Oden as intimidater, Batum to stretch the offense and lockdown on D, and JB to help with ball handling, draw fouls, score in bunches and play great D.

If he can get his jumper to be a reliable shot the sky's the limit for him. Otherwise, he'll be a journeyman.

I like Bayless a lot, but I wonder myself if he'll ever have the kind of game that blends in with the starters ... time will tell.
