Posting a negative review online can get you sued

Posting reviews has become second nature for many consumers nowadays – 82 percent of adults say they read online reviews at least some of the time, according to a Pew Research Center Study – so when they have a bad experience with a business, up goes a review, to share it with others.

But for one man in Florida, what he thought was a simple review turned into a year-long battle in court.

"I never thought I'd be sued over anything that I write. There's no reason to say anything but the truth," said Tom Lloyd, of DeLand, Florida. But Lloyd said telling the truth got him in trouble......(continued)

Here's my review:
Even for a dog, Sly sucks.
Okay, where's my lawsuit? Will anyone back me? Any cat lovers out there?

Once in awhile a "reviewer" probably deserves to be sued. I checked the reviews out for a place we've rented in Sunriver and the person was complaining about the place being dirty, the beds old and uncomfortable, and there being no air conditioning (which is clearly noted in the description on VRBO). The owner, who was more gracious than I think I would have been, wrote a comment saying that the unit is professionally cleaned between each rental, the beds are new, and there are fans in the closets (and noted that he was sorry she wasn't able to find them).

I wish I'd known sooner that you like to rent places that are dirty with old uncomfortable beds. I've got just the spot for you, it's a mattress under a bridge. Now, it happens that I'm selling the bridge to ABM, but I can still rent you the mattress.
