Anyone going to PGE park this weekend to see this civil war battle?
Beavers took the first game in Eugene 7-1 on friday the first time in 28 years that these two teams met.

i'm going but only because i was given a free ticket, and i hope the beavers crush the ducks once again. but i'll be leaving around 7 to head to the marathon for the blazer game.

If its raining still up to 15 min before gates open (which is 4:30 pm) the ballpark will have suspend the game til tomorrow.
If it rains during the game there is a minimum 45 min - 1 hour rain delay and then they resume the game again.

im going..it hasnt rained lately im assumin the game is gonna be played

USC just gave the Ducks a wake up call for the Pac-10 league.
LOS ANGELES -- Right-hander Robert Stock held Oregon to five hits over eight innings to lead USC to a 9-1 victory over the Ducks on Saturday afternoon at Dedeaux Field.

With the win, the Trojans (17-14, 7-5 Pacific-10 Conference) completed a series sweep of the Ducks (12-20, 2-7), the first time Oregon has been swept in a weekend series this season.
It could be possible that the ducks could be a .500 next season, but the pac-10 will be still tough for them, until they start getting good quality wins for recruits.

It takes awhile to build a program from scratch in any collegiate sport.

Anyone have the link or info on how long the Ducks were in a "club" status in baseball ?
They had a lot of CC transfers for this 08-09 season. I sure hope the freshman will benefit from experience to help out the team for next year.

Its amazing that the Beavers are already 20-7 right now with a 7-2 Pac-10 record. I have a feeling that they are a little better than the 2008 squad but can they equal what the 2007 squad did with more guts?

I don't suspect the Ducks to be successful for a few years. How could anyone expect them to start a program from scratch and then compete with a program that has won national championships?

What amazes me is that UO dumped a lot of money into their new baseball stadium (trying to find the $$ figure). Did the club status really get them enough boosters? Interesting article on UO spending so much on baseball and basketball back in 2007. http://www.eugeneweekly.com/2007/07/19/news3.html

When the Beavers won their title back in 2006, they did moderation improvements to Goss, not drastic. In 2007 they won again and improved their ballpark again. Looks like OSU is more conservative on their budget since they don't have Mr. Knight shelving out the big bucks.

UO's talent pool is weaker compared to other Pac-10 teams and other colleges that the Ducks have played in their schedule.
Was the expectations of the Ducks roster presumed to be this high?

Current Pac -10 Standings.

2. Beavers 7-2 Conference, 22 - 7 overall
8. Ducks 2 -7 Conference, 12 - 21 overall.

Does "beaver" have the same meaning in America?

That is an odd question. In the United State, it is referring to an animal that is a primarily nocturnal, semi-aquatic species of rodent. They are known for building dams, canals, and lodges (homes).

Is that true in your homeland?

They are also known for winning back to back National Championships.

but its not that popular. i barely ever hear anyone saying beaver meaning.....well you know

I think Julius is playing innocent -- "beaver" certainly does have that connotation here, even if it is not all that common. This leads to all kinds of (ahem) terribly clever puns and chants at sporting events.

I distinctly remember gleefully (and completely innocently) joining into a "WE EAT BEAVER" chant as a naive high school freshman when we were playing against the Beaverton Beavers. I thought it was referring to dinner.

Haha, that's a good one.

It's nice to hear times haven't changed. I remember my HS playing Beaverton HS in the HS basketball tournament. A few of us donned orange and black, headed over to the Beaverton stands and started the chant, "You Can't Lick Our Beavers! You Can't Lick Our Beavers!" In a few seconds we had most of the crowd chanting with us. Good times, good times.
