To the list of liberals who vote for higher taxes -- and then proceed to complain about them -- add comedian Bill Maher.

Incredibly, the caustic, left-wing Maher recently warned, "ln California, I just want to say: Liberals -- you could actually lose me." As a resident of California, a state with high income taxes, Maher complained that his taxes are "over 50 percent." What's more, Maher made a point seldom heard except on Fox News or by a rich Parisian. Maher said, "Rich people ... actually do pay the freight in this country ... like 70 percent" of the taxes. (Presumably, Maher meant that the top 10 percent of taxpayers pay about 70.5 percent of the federal income taxes.)

Holy Grover Norquist! Was it an epiphany or merely the latest example of liberal hypocrisy?

Maher, just two years ago, painted this picture of the filthy, clueless, racist, sexist, homophobic, selfish, greedy rich:

"America's rich aren't giving you money. They are taking your money. Between the years 1980 and 2005, 80 percent of all new income generated in this country went to the richest 1 percent. Let me put that in terms that even you fat-ass tea-baggers, sorry, can understand. Say 100 Americans get together and order a 100-slice pizza. The pizza arrives, they open the box, and the first guy takes 80 slices. And if someone suggests, 'Why don't you just take 79 slices?' -- that's socialism! ...

"We have this fantasy that our interests and the interests of the super-rich are the same, like somehow the rich will eventually get so full that they'll explode, and the candy will rain down on the rest of us, like they're some kind of pinata of benevolence. But here's the thing about a pinata -- it doesn't open on its own; you have to beat it with a stick."

But -- now -- Maher complains.

You ain't seen nothing yet, Maher.

These taxes are just the tip of the iceberg for you.

If you don't want people to call you a conservative honk, don't say shit like this Denny.

Did you even watch the show, and put into context what he was saying?

He said that (they were talking about the 3 budgets offered in congress), and then said "I'm willing to pay my share"..

and he was saying it in a humorous tone.

For the love of christ, it's shit like this that makes me not take conservatives seriously.

He made the comments during a panel discussion of current Capitol Hill budget policy that included the participation of MSNBC Rachel Maddow, who blasted Rep. Paul Ryan’s proposal as beneficial to the rich.

“The Ryan budget is a document that says the big problems in American right now are that rich people do not have enough money. They need relief from confiscatory tax rate,” she said, Newsbusters reports.

Mr. Maher answered: “You know what? Rich people — I’m sure you’d agree with this — actually do pay the freight in this country.”

Mr. Maher then cited statistics that California millionaires pay nearly 40 percent to the federal government and another near 15 percent to the state.

“I just want to say liberals — you could actually lose me. It’s outrageous what we’re paying — over 50 percent. I’m willing to pay my share, but yeah, it’s ridiculous,” he said, Newsbusters reports.

Watch it for yourself.

OMG A COMEDIAN'S OPINION CHANGED!!!!

He's far more than a comedian to the left. He's right up there with Jon Stewart and Colbert...all cloaked in white, and riding their liberal stallions...

And it's still nothing like you portray and everything like the news articles suggest.

Wow, libertarian Maher (who spent the whole Clinton administration trashing Clinton) disagrees with a liberal! What's next, a conservative disagrees with a libertarian?

He is not a libertarian.

He is an old school American Leftist with a strong distrust of government. I know that is a contradiction, but was always the case with old Leftists. They wanted a big, strong, active government - but on their terms. Social Freedom. Economic lack of freedom.

Since the Dems (from Clinton on) had mostly moved to full-on statism and given up fighting for big increases in Social Freedoms - War on Drugs, War on Terror, Privacy Rights, Rights of Accused, Gay Rights, Government Transparency, etc. - some old school Leftists became upset. Maher was one. So he labeled himself "libertarian" in protest. He still isn't one.

Though I have never read any of the articles, if you Google "Is Bill Maher a " Libertarian pops up, as this has been debated and debunked before.

Early in the Clinton administration, Maher came on the David Letterman show a couple of times, said he had met Clinton at some large official function, and ridiculed Clinton for his skin being reddish. (Letterman, who has the same facial problem, irrationally laughed.)

So ABC gave Maher his own half-hour after Ted Koppel's Nightline, opposite the last half of Letterman and Leno. The main theme of most shows, year after year, was to ridicule Clinton. In the first month of the Bush administration, Maher, whom I had long since pegged as a Republican pretending to be something else, surprised me by ridiculing the new president. Immediately his show was cancelled.

Maybe you can find some Carter administration dupe who wrote a book about how GHW Bush conspired with advertisers to pull their ads from Maher's show after his stupid remarks after 9/11.

http://articles.cnn.com/2002-05-14/...ppel-and-nightline-pi-news-show?_s=PM:SHOWBIZ

The Associated Press is reporting that ABC is canceling Bill Maher's late-night topical talk show, "Politically Incorrect," and replacing it with an entertainment show led by Comedy Central's Jimmy Kimmel. Daily Variety confirms that Kimmel has been signed to a contract.

"Politically Incorrect" has been on thin ice since just after the September 11 terrorist attacks, when host Maher was quoted as referring to past United States military actions as "cowardly." FedEx and Sears pulled their advertising from the show.

Maher made incendiary remarks on his show for years against Clinton, every single night. If anyone on the show even dared to be neutral, Maher shouted over him or her with some caustic comment ridiculing Clinton. I hated him. He, Leno, and CNN led the parade against Clinton, yet the voters loved Clinton.

As with Nixon and Reagan (I was too young to observe the Eisenhower start), as soon as Bush was inaugurated, the tone of the entire media changed. Suddenly we were supposed to take authority seriously instead of laughing at it, as the media had encouraged us during the administration just ended.

Maher continued being aggressive against the new president, ridiculing his evil war, so the media, which is owned by Republicans and closely watched by intelligence, cancelled him. They did the same to Phil Donahue the same time. I could name shows that were cancelled early in the Nixon and Reagan eras.

Maher's show was cancelled because he offended his sponsors and THEY pulled the plug.

His new show on HBO isn't sponsored so he's in no danger of pissing of the people who pay his way. Until he takes on HBO or their owning company.

Yet those Republican sponsors weren't offended when Maher did all he could to tear down Clinton's efforts in Somalia, Yugoslavia, Haiti, Iraq ("wag the tail"), Iran, North Korea, Ireland, China, bombing a bin Laden camp minutes after Osama had escaped, on and on an on for years and years.

I guess it's just a coincidence or an oversight that Republican sponsors, ever so nonpartisan, didn't get him cancelled then.

When I try to edit the spelling of the word "and" only 10 seconds after posting that successfully, it says I don't have permission.

he thinks its is or will be getting to high (taxes) in CA. everyone has a limit, apparently they are reaching his

shouldnt he be applauded by the right for this and not called out?

i dont get you guys

Surely he could have attracted the kind of sponsors who stopped buying ads on Glenn Beck's show.

What a way to let your lack of intelligence shine through.

You rant about taking something out of context, and then type the above garbage.

Ironically, if Bill Maher has to pay for the kind of government he wants, his overall tax rate would easily be over 70%.

It just goes to show, everybody likes free shit.
