"McCollum may have been the best scorer in college basketball before a foot injury knocked him out last week. There's a good chance that he has played his last college game. How will it affect his stock? Most of the scouts I spoke with aren't worried. They've seen him play enough, and as long as he's going to be willing and able to do NBA team workouts, his draft stock shouldn't take a major hit." -Ford/Insider

Despite the improvement in his numbers likely being inflated by the limited sample of games we have to look at (12 total), the consistency of McCollum's mechanics, whether he's pulling up off the dribble, shooting off the catch, or using his step-back are more controlled and consistent than they were early in his career. He still takes some difficult, off balance shots, but his 63% true shooting percentage ranks him as the most efficient point guard prospect in our top-100 nonetheless, reflecting just how impressive he's been as a senior.

C.J. McCollum
6'3" 195 lb. SG/PG - 21 y/o
23.9 PPG 5.0 RPG 2.9 APG
51.6 3pt% | 48.5 FG%
33.4 PER | 63 TS% (very similar advanced stats to Lillard)
Projected lotto pick

You had me at foot injury, out for the season.

I don't give a flying pheasant fart about the draft until we're mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, and even then only as small consolation for a disappointing season.

I refuse to root to lose.

I'm not wild about banking a lotto pick on a guy with injuries to his base (feet, knees, hips) but if his bill of health comes back clean and he's head and shoulders better than the other players available when we're picking I guess it's something that Olshey should at least consider.

Frankly though, I have a hard time believing that they'd want two super young point guards on the team; that's less than ideal for both Lillard and this kid in terms of creating a hierarchy of who is the starter and who is the backup ... not to say that it couldn't happen, but I don't think that's the best tactic.

He's a SG.

I've watched some of his videos a while back and the dude can get his shot whenever he fells like it. CGOTF! I'm intrigued.

I'm an advocate for always taking the best talent available in the draft regardless of need. I'm recalling when Portland had Paxson coming off an All NBA 2nd team selection and they drafted Clyde #14. Gathering desirable assets gives you options

Agreed 100%.

then why did you highlight the section that lists him as the most efficient PG in the rankings?

Their words, not mine. DX was pointing out that he's the most efficient scorer of any prospect in their database. Which is crazy considering he puts up 25 PPG.

You start him w/Lillard or you develop him as your go-to-guy off the bench. His ability to shoot off screens and spot up, he'd be a great fit with Damian.

He's an undersized 2 guard. Maybe a late 1st guy. Way 2 guards in this draft that I like better. Marcus Smart to begin with.

6'3 SG? Unless he has monkey arms like Batum, no thanks. Not a big fan of having a shrimp backcourt.

Taking a 6th man mid-late first is still a good value. Obviously if hes BPA you have to go for him. You've got a good starting unit as is, why not go for a dynamic scorer to fill in a 6th/7th spot in the rotation?

Wasn't Lillard the most efficient scorer last year?

This team needs a lot of help. Wes Matthews is ideally a 6th man. We need a starting quality 2, IMO.

Its kind of chicken and egg, but recently a lot of teams have been going with defensive role players at SG in the starting unit with explosive 6th men coming off the bench. The Mavs won a ring with DeShawn Stevenson starting and Terry getting big minutes off the bench, Memphis with Tony Allen/OJ Mayo, OKC with Sefolosha and Harden/Martin, San Antonio with Danny Green/Manu.

If your starting unit has enough firepower, you're only shooting yourself in the foot by adding another offensive oriented player who isn't going to get many touches. I think with Lillard, LMA, and Batum you're fine with a defense/3 pt shooting specialist starting at SG. Your second unit definitely needs some more punch.

In other words, start Pavlovic!

I actually agree with this sentiment. I'd start Freeland too. Give Matthews and Hickson ~32mpg off the bench, and never have fewer than three of our five good players on the floor at any one time.

Never happen, but I'd like to see it.

I'd go leonard and Claver, personally, if I was going to give it a shot.

I'd go Leonard over Freeland too, if he were healthy. I'd keep Claver as Batum's backup though--don't want too many rookies in the starting lineup.

Bump

Chad Ford thinks CJ's stock will skyrocket during workouts.

Size wise, length and height, is comparable to Eric Gordon.

This guy has the skillset that fits in perfectly next to Lillard.

Before the foot injury he was shooting over 50% from three.
