I found this posted on BlazersEdge comments

Suspicious number $4.8M. Exactly what we could trade Wright to Lakers for Kaman (Sign and Trade), and still keep our MLE.
Wright salary is $3.150M. So $3.15M * 1.50 + $100k = $4.825M.

Or we could trade Freeland + Crabbe for Kaman. Of Freeland only if Kaman took $4.6 the first year.

Meyers + Crabbe for Kaman S&T also works.
These deals don’t work at the full $5.3M MLE.

I was very curious why the Blazers chose 500k less than the full MLE. I thought it would make more sense to give Kaman the full MLE then only guarantee half a million of his contract next season. Perhaps the Lakers are willing to do a sign and trade for a specific player of ours once the Melo/Lebron decisions are made.

I wonder who we would then target with the full MLE? Mario Chalmers or Shawn Marion would interest me.

Eh. There's not a lot out there for the Full MLE.

If we did a sign and trade then after acquiring Kaman we'd still have 2 or 3 roster spots available. Maybe we'd be splitting up the MLE? Al-Farouq Aminu as a defensive SF with Ekpe Udoh as a defensive big? Then still keep Mo or whatever BAE PG we can get.

Perhaps we are doing this to use the MLE on mo and will use the BAE on a vet whose role would be similar to watsons.

it would be a solid move for any of the mentioned guys, I would include Wright-Claver-Freeland-Crabbe and Leonard on any sign and trade list

The Nets don't want to do a sign and trade with the Clippers for Pierce, could we give him a 1 year MLE?

I would go with Marion. We could use a wing defender on the bench. He's familiar with Stotts as a coach and he can still play even if he is old.

Very interesting. So am I correct that we don't know if it's a sign and trade?

Who we would target with the MLE would be somewhat dependent on who is traded. But I think PG would make a lot of sense regardless.

Defense, what do you say?

I would lean that way too but Denny doesn't have a very high opinion on Hinrich. And I think with the familiarity (and that I could see him coming cheaper) I think POR would go Blake.

You make it sound as if Denny has a real say in all this? Do you know something we/I don't?

I like the idea. If it is Wright, who I could see the lakers wanting, then Blazers would have to target both a SF and a PG.

I like Chalmers.

Then Blazers do the same thing. If Chalmers is worth about 3-4, over pay him the first yr for flexibility the second year. Between Kaman and Chalmers (or whoever) that would be about 10 million we could offer to a team looking for salary cap space.

Chalmers might be looking for a way out if both LBJ and Bosh are gone.

Chalmers could probably get a 4 yr deal for more than 10 mil (sick how much money we are discussing). Blake will have a hard time getting a 4 yr deal, maybe do the up front loaded contract with Blake . . . who the Lakers could also sign and trade. My head is spinning . . .
