WTF...

One team that may go after Eddy Curry, now that the Knick center appears ready to resume playing, is the Blazers.

Portland president Kevin Pritchard, who's been after David Lee for years, quietly scouted a Knick preseason game.

"They'll do anything for a big man," a league source said.

Obviously, Curry is trade bait because his contract runs past 2010. His removal could allow the Knicks New York Knicks to sign two players to maximum contracts that summer.

The person who wrote this article showed he reads message boards. This is absolute garbage. KP scouted the game to see Eddy Curry...... on the bench in a suit?

No way we take on Curry. He doesn't play good defense and is a negative in the locker room. Why would we want him?

Perhaps as the cost of getting Lee.

Something along the lines of Frye and LaFrentz for Lee and Curry. Frye clearly is much, much worse than Lee...the inducement for the Knicks to do it would be to get rid of an otherwise immoveable contract.

Anything! Muhahaha!!! KP is such a sucker!

Oh, come on E. I know you have intel sources and all sorts of inside info. But if you blab and everyone finds out the truth about KP, then all the other GMs will want to make a trade for our best and most lucrative, available assets; such as: Diogu, Frye, LaFrentz, Bayless and ... and maybe even Outlaw. Then think where that will get the Team and us.

Go Blazers!

GO KP

JAFO

SHHHHHHH!!!

I'm glad you didn't mention... ahem, you know, S... SR... The number he wears is the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

Wasn't there a rmor that Charlotte wanted curry for G wallace? Maybe we keep Lee and flip Curry for Wallace? Of course I don't think Curry by himself gets you Wallace.

I don't see how any sane GM could be interested in Curry at this point. He's injured, out of shape, and overpaid at this point. Plus his inability to get into game shape last summer confirms his lack of a work ethic.

You guys better hope this is just a rumor!

The "will do anything" comment cracked me up, apparently somebody in the Knicks management is plying the NY media pretty hard trying to get Portland to accept a piece of shit if KP really does want Lee. I can't see KP wanting Lee that badly.

I kind of expected this. It makes sense. Getting rid of Curry's contract is huge to the Knicks. I would be temtped to do it if it meant not having to give up a young talent as well to get Lee. (Which can be used in other trades if need be) Curry would be fine in the locker room for a half a season. You would think KP could unload him this summer. People always need big men. I guess i would rather not have him included, but if i were KP I would consider it.

Do anything for a big man? Who the hell is this league source... oh yeah, it's the NY Post, which has never broke anything or spoke anything of truth. It's like a National Enqurier. Curry is nearly the worst player in the NBA.

yeah i mean we only have 3 above average big men, we desperately need a big who can play 10 minutes a game at all costs!

Someone else already quoted this, but it makes sense.

Knicks basically dumped Zach to clear up cap space. So they are probably looking to dump Curry. I think dumping Curry will be twice as tough as dumping Zach, so maybe the Knicks have to throw in a young promising player (Lee) to get a team to take Curry. What team out there has an owner who is willing to take on more salary, not care about the 2010 cap and has an expring contract they can trade?

Says who? I don't think the Knicks need be so desperate to dump Curry because his contract runs out in the mythical summer of 2010 anyway, so he would be out of the way for signing LeBron. In fact, the only player on their entire roster whose contract runs longer (by a year) is Jared Jeffries, whom D'Antoni raved about (before, inevitably, he got injured).

Talking of the Knicks, what's up with Gallinari? Is his back injury really career threatening?

Well that does put a wrinkle in my theory. :D

Thanks for the info . . .

curry has a player option for 2011 for 10 million or so.

for that matter, he has a player option for next year as well, at 10.5 million. not that he will excercise either one, but yeah...

I'll put it this way. If the Blazers traded for Eddie Curry I would probably give up on them right now.

11 million is a helluva lot of money for an out of shape worthless layabout.

Considering he's not even the worst center on the Knicks' payroll (I'm looking at you, Jerome James)..."nearly" is a good qualifier there.

And I'd take Curry over ShavBo.

If Curry were the cost of doing business, we would basically be trading our cap space for David Lee.

Curry, the player, would be irrelevant. He could be cut or told not to bother coming to practice/games, etc. I am certain Portland has no interest in Curry the player. If there is any truth to this, I can only imagine that Pritchard doesn't see being able to get anything else for the LaFrentzian chunk of cap space, so is willing to spend it to acquire Lee. Allen then absorbs Curry's black hole contract and only Lee ever suits up for Portland. Curry is the teams 15th man til his contract expires (or he's waived).

Huh - according to this site you're right. I got my info off the ESPN Draft Machine. What's odd is that according to the site above both Jeffries and Curry have player options for '10-11, and in both cases that would be the last year of their contracts, while the Draft Machine said Jeffries had a year more on his contract than Curry. I guess if Curry does have that extra year then NY trading him makes sense, because there's no way he doesn't pick that option up.

From John Hollinger's "Inside Gems" article today:

2. The trade deadline is approaching, which means it's RRENY season (RRENY, of course, stands for Ridiculous Rumors Emanating from New York). For starters, an alleged three-way deal between Portland, the Knicks and the Clippers involving David Lee and Marcus Camby was emphatically shot down by two of the three teams. And that wasn't even the worst one: A story in today's New York Post today claims that Portland would be interested in Eddy Curry.

Riiiiiiiiight.

Let's see. Portland has two behemoth centers already in Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla, and there's zero chance either of them would shift to power forward. At best, Curry would be Oden's backup, where he'd be making $10 million a year for three more seasons, with an uninsurable deal. He'd be on a team that wins entirely by spacing the floor and shooting jumpers, but he's only effective if he's being force-fed in the post. He's also out of shape and would kill their cap space in 2010.

Basically, I can't imagine a single player who the Blazers could possibly have less interest in. Pick anyone, and I mean literally anyone -- Jerome James, Kenny Thomas, Stephon Marbury, you name it -- and it makes more sense for the Blazers than Curry.

I don't always agree with everything the bald statistician has to say, but this rang pretty true for me.
