Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

Why would Deron have to be a sign and trade?

I think we can even keep Batum. Maybe send them Matthews, #6 for rondo and pierce.

Nah, no way. Batum would have to go. If the Celtics are going to go into full-blown rebuild mode, they'd need more than just the #6, especially to try to sell it to the fans. With that said, it'd be worth it!

Rondo
Matthews
Pierce
Aldridge
Joel/Thomas/etc.

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

I guess he wouldn't; I'm curious if there is any advantage to him under the new rules to go that route?

As for Gordon, isn't he restricted FA; so it seems more likely that he would have to be part of a sign and trade.

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

Why does everybody assume we will have two lottery picks? There is a really good chance we will have none.

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

Jesus it BETTER not be Eric "I'll be injured as long as I want rather than play for the Hornets" Gordon. A destitute man's Mitch Richmond.

To say that the Blazers' own pick won't be a lottery pick would require amazing optimism about this team, so I can't believe YOU would say that.

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

I'm not a fan of often injured Gordon. I really hope it's for someone better.

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

Tell you who I'd want, but I don't think they'd trade: James Harden. (Wouldn't it be fate? He's been called "the next Brandon Roy" enough.)

I can see him doing a Joe Johnson and wanting to leave the Durant-Westbrook show to get a bigger role. (Of course, they all love each other SO MUCH in OKC, he'll probably sign for the minimum just to stay with his pals.)
If OKC were smart, they'd've traded Westbrook for a real PG (Rondo/Rubio) and have Durant and Harden be the scorers. IMHO.

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

You've also got to think something's got to give in Philly with Iguodala, Turner, Louis Williams AND Jrue Holiday, and with a lack of depth up front. Obviously Turner or Holiday would be preferable, as Iguodala is getting on in years and Williams is another Monta Ellis type.

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

I think OKC will opt to keep Harden and let go of Ibaka instead. Still a year away, though, as they both came into the league in 09.

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

If BOS decides to blow it up this summer, I would trade both our picks for Rondo (give back no salary as we'd be below the cap). And then go hard after McGee, Hibbert, or Hawes in free agency. One of them is bound to get loose as a RFA.

Actually not. I'm pessimistic that we will make the playoffs. Worst thing that could happen.

My opinion, but I think okc will never win as long as Westbrook and Durant are on the same team. One has to go. They are both big time scoters, and I think Westbrook will want to be the man. I don't think he likes being superstar 1b.

Are there teams with a star and over the cap? Because if we just traded the picks for a 12 mil salary, we can give them a 12 mil tpe for the free agency of 2012

Re: What guard are Blazers targeting?

that was my question. if he's opting out there's no significant advantage possible for him in a sign and trade, correct? bird rights don't give the nets an extra year over what we could sign him outright for?

That what I was thinking as well. There are no advantages for sign and trades anymore. I think Portland is realistic with Williams. They are targeting another player. Of course they will toss an offer to d will, but they are probably pessimistic like mediocre man.

However, if Boston traded Pierce and Rondo, they would only have 5 players under contract for next year with combined salaries of about $9M (exclusive of Batum). I understand tearing down to rebuild, but that's about as drastic as it gets. With very few exciting players in this year's class, do you think they'd go that far?

Yeah, they'll split up.

Just like Jordan and Pippen split up, after 6 rings or so.

Forget Pierce. He's owed an insane amount of money and as his advanced age it would be asinine to even consider him an option.
