Wow--I really would not have predicted this. I never saw his career as HoF worthy. I have a feeling there are going to be some pretty upset dudes who have comparable if not superior resumes.

Of course, then I go and look at the career win-shares list, and Shawn Marion is the only HoF-eligible player above Billups who isn't already in (or getting in this year). Being a finals MVP clearly gives CB a leg up. Still...just feels like a "hall-of-very-good" level inclusion to me. Like Billups should essentially be the "you must be taller than this to ride" line at the entrance to the roller coaster.

It's the basketball hall of fame ... easily the most watered down of the 3 major ones in US sports. Just in the last few years guys like Jack Sikma, Mo Cheeks, Vlade Divac, Tim Hardaway and others that were really nice players but not the greats of their generations that have gotten in. It's more of a Hall of Very Good, more than a Hall of Fame.

The finals MVP means so much for his career, but what put Chauncey over for me was seeing how the late 2000s Nuggets team improved immediately once they traded for him. Plus it was nice to see him play on a team that was fun to watch.
 
Mr. Big Shot could ball. Unquestionably a dynamic playing career with tremendous accolades.
 
I can kind of see where those suggesting the HOF has been watered down are coming from

Billups never averaged 20 points or more; not once in 17 seasons. He never averaged 10 assists; in fact, he never averaged 9 assists and only averaged 7 assists or more twice

he was 'only' in 5 all-star games and never made an All-NBA First team, not even all-defense.

what he did do was win the Finals MVP which does account for a lot
 
Saw a bunch of talk yesterday about “FUTURE HALL OF FAMER” Rondo had retired.

Amazing. The type of award that is retirement-worthy, even. Hang it up—your job here is done.
 
He deserves it and I don't think it's controversial, at all.

I feel like the benchmark to enter into the Fall of Fame is 6-7 All Star games with a few All-NBA teams to your name. That shows a stretch of stardom and skill that you're able to secure that many All Star games over a period of time (usually prime years and a few years before/after). LaMarcus Aldridge, for example, is probably the threshold to enter.

In the case of Billups, 5x All Star + a few All NBA teams + being critical to a championship squad can also do this. Same with Ben Wallace. Draymond and Klay Thompson is also in this category.

But a Rasheed Wallace or Rip Hamilton? Players like that probably shouldn't make it on basketball accolades alone.

I've always liked Erik Kuselias' very simple (though unquestionably subjective) criteria:
  1. Was he "great"?
  2. Was he great long enough?
I never felt like CB was great, and I don't feel like his 5-year all-star run was long enough to be HoF worthy. The fact that he was the leader of the most well-constructed team since the turn of the millennium is his greatest credential, and it's more a credit to Joe Dumars than it is to him.
 
If Billups is in the HOF then so should Rasheed.
 


Tisse definitely has a career in filmmaking after basketball.
