The Portland Trail Blazers are proudly hosting two special events at tomorrow’s game against the Chicago Bulls. Activities and tributes throughout the game will help celebrate the team’s first-ever Pride Night and honor the 2016 Rio Olympians and Paralympians with ties to Oregon.
Pride Night, with support from Alaska Airlines, is an opportunity for the team and its fans to celebrate diversity and inclusion. The festivities begin before the opening tip, when the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus performs the National Anthem. Tomorrow’s night’s Item of the Game at Rip City Clothing Co. is a sweatshirt featuring the signature “Rip City” wordmark in rainbow coloring.
Proceeds from the sweatshirt, 5050 Raffle in partnership with the Safeway Foundation, silent auction at the raffle booth and the group ticket link all benefit Q Center, which provides a welcoming and safe space to support and celebrate LGBTQIA+ diversity, equality, visibility and community building. The evening also supports Sankofa Collective NW, The Equi Institute and Pride NW.
The Trail Blazers are also saluting many of Oregon’s 2016 Rio Olympians and Paralympians during tomorrow’s game. Fans will not want to miss the halftime ceremony honoring each member of the Olympic and Paralympic teams in attendance.
The organization is anticipating 27 athletes who competed during the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio. Collectively, these athletes have won 31 Olympic medals (11 in Rio), and appeared in Olympic and Paralympic competition 56 times.
