Blazers interested in Boatright?

I guess if they were going to keep Pressey instead of Montero then you might as well look at this guy instead of Pressey. I still don't think we need another PG after Dame, CJ and Frazier though personally. Dame is only going to be on the bench 12 mins a game.

I don't think we keep Montero. They are gonna grab a guy another team cuts.

Hard to see that happening at this late date...

Why would we add another point guard? This wouldn't really make any sense and this article is just based on him saying in June that his agent told him we showed interest in him..

Not.

Swayed.

Once again, they knew montero wasn't ready when they signed him. I doubt anything has changed there. If anyone gets cut for Boatright it'll be Frazier.

They signed him in July to see if he would make progress in 4 months. Reason contract was nonguaranteed. All reports are he's still way over his head. If I were Neil Id cut him.

I doubt that.

As for his contract:

RealGM.com reported that the Blazers signed Montero to a multi-year deal, but how much was guaranteed was not quite clear. According to Pedro Pablo Perez–who helped bring Montero to the United States per sources–on an interview with ESPN Radio show “Cancha Entera” in the Domincan Republic, Montero is guaranteed $600,000 K in a 3-year deal that could be worth up to 2.3 million. The rest of the deal after the first year will depend on whether the Blazers hold on to him the next few years.

Your information is wrong; see the stickied salary thread. He was only guaranteed $100k.

Did you call his agent or handler a liar?

The figures I have and from the stickied thread are from basketball insiders which is run by Eric Pincus a former nets executive and regarded as the most accurate source for NBA salary data.

Here's the post from the stickied CAP page -

It looks like Montero's contract is non guaranteed. I'll update the main post.

The only way I can see the Blazers going after Boatright is if they let Pressey and Frazier go. I can't see them giving up on Montero so quickly. He's a long (long, long) term project. They had to know that when they signed him.

My one thought is maybe NO promised Montero he'd be on the roster this year. That'd be $600K?

Yep. $525,093 for this year if he makes the team. Non-guaranteed next year. I doubt money is the issue though for this year. The Blazers are so far under the team minimum salary, I think if they see a player with more long term potential, they'd cut Montero. I just don't think Boatright is the guy.

Exactly. I don't see a guy coming along that would meet that criteria - you kinda have to like Montero's potential, even if he seems like a long shot. I could see Portland feeling the same with this roster and making a promise that they'll keep him.

If Portland were to go after a player of Boatright's level, I'd expect he's replacing Frazier and Pressy. Especially after naming CJ the backup PG. Tells me that the third PG is interchangeable and wide open.

Neither Frazier or pressey have impressed so it shouldn't be surprising that neil might be on the lookout for another PG. Don't know what it has to do with Montero.
