It’s free agency time in the NBA, which means information leaks have sprung like a sprinkler in summer, and you can trust everything you hear about as much you can trust a Drudge report. I’ve always thought the kind of people who Dick Cheney enlists in his secret ops should also negotiate major sports contracts. The combination of secrecy, misdirection and bungling is perfect resumé filler.

The latest scuttlebutt—depending on the minute—has it that Jazz power forward Carlos Boozer may be headed to the Bulls in a three-way deal with the Portland Trailblazers. The Bulls would have to give up Captain Kirk and Ty Thomas (who, I regret to report, is on Twitter leave) to make it happen, and the chattering class seems to think this is the answer. The Bulls have been aching for a low-post presence since some hyperbolic example of a long time ago, and Boozer is a beast in the post. But it’s a bad idea for so many reasons, and the fact that the Bulls would even be interested in it speaks to their toddling approach to building a team....

Crap, did it again! :tsktsk:

Meant for regular forum.

I was goign to say, wow even blazer news is getting redirected to the ot forum.

That looks like the previous rumor that was shot down.

Doesn't say what Portland would have to give up, or if we would get both Heinrich and Thomas.

On the other hand, this is a pretty good line about Boozer:

The man lives more in the paint than Jackson Pollack.

Hinrich -> Portland
Thomas -> Utah
Cap Space -> Utah
Boozer -> Chicago

It's the only thing that works in a trade checker.

What about redirecting Thomas to Portland and Outlaw to Utah and Blake to Chicago?

Trade Link

I'm sure there are other combinations that would work as well. But, this one would make room for Hinrich and Thomas.

I've felt for a while that the Millsap thing was really about getting Thomas to go to Portland instead of the Jazz.

Kind of just sounds like this guy's late to the party more than anything.

Sorry, but this trade does not work.

Due to Chicago, Utah and Portland being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Chicago, Utah and Portland had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did not happen here (only Chicago and Utah met the condition). This trade does not satisfy the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Late to the party it is.

There's been no talks at all about this deal. Among the GMs. It's a trade that probably should be done, but I don't think the Bulls want to part with Hinrich even if they'd get Boozer. They're morons.

Add in Blake to Chicago and it does work (see above)

Maybe it works better for them if the get Boozer and Blake?

Factor in that the Bulls won't go over the LT.

I'd love to see the Bulls get Blake and Boozer for Hinrich and a $6M expiring or Tyrus for a year (is expiring/QO)

No, surely it must be Pritchard's fault, somehow.

I like how it predicts all three teams get worse from this trade.

The Blake addition is only $2M more than what Chicago gave out. I can't remember, can Portland throw in case or use the trade exception to help this over the hump?

I noticed that before when looking at Hinrich and Thomas coming to Portland. I'm not a fan of Thomas, or tweeners in general, but you sure would think it would improve the team's defense.

Blazers couldn't do it until the Jazz match their offer for Millsap could they?

Bulls $14.25 out (Hinrich $9.5M, Thomas $4.75M)
Bulls $17.5M in (Boozer $12.6M, Blake $4.9M)

Looks like it puts the Bulls $3.25M over the LT.
