This is a guy that couldn't beat out the worst starting PG in the league. Makes no sense.

Fuck no, Farmar is GARBAGE. I'd sooner sign Blake for the MLE than grab that piece of turd.

Just say no to a L*ker.

Remember when Ariza clobbered Rudy - Farmar was the one that ran to make sure he is OK and called for help. I would not hold it against Farmar that he was drafted by the L*kers.

On the other hand, while he is not great, I would not oppose to him as a low-cost backup PG insurance - Travis Diener on sterioids, if you will. Kid is still very young and when actually got 20MPG - his PER was over 15.

Farmar? Really?! What in the hell has the Blazers so hot on Farmar?

Maybe it's like this. Portland has no GM, therefore no one who can deny rumors. Therefore it's a free shot for Farmar's agent to suggest that Portland is interested.

At least, that's what I hope the explanation is.

All I can think of is that the Blazers really are a hairsbreadth away from actually consummating a trade with New Orleans for Paul and they are going to want a semi-useful reserve to back him up. I wouldn't offer anything more than 3 years 10 to 12 million (I think that's about right?), but I would want to be damn sure that we have an all-star/all-NBA guy in front of him.

TOO MUCH. Patty Mills is a better option, seriously. I'd offer Farmer 5 donuts/5 years, and if he doesn't want it, he can go to hell.

Honestly I don't know if Mills is a better option or not, he wasn't particularly useful when he did get minutes. Farmar is clearly nothing special, but I'd probably trust him just a hair more than I would Armon Johnson or Patty Mills.

But not at 5x the price. Cmon! If Chris Paul is playing starting PG, I could care less who is getting the remaining 10 minutes. Stick Roy there or something.

Mills had a PER of 11.9. Farmar had a 12.3 after a 9.9 the previous year.

Vet minimum for Farmar?

Hmmm... The kind with Jelly in 'em? Seems a little steep. How about just 5 boring old glazed donuts/5 years. Fine, I'll throw in a player option for a donut hole, Jesus. But he's not getting a napkin.

Once Farmar sucks it up though I don't think we can create as good as name as BLANKY. This is a huge minus for a potential deal.

Are you seriously using PER for Millis? He played like 39 minutes the whole season. There's not enough data to use PER in a comparison at all.

I'd rather have Blake than Farmar. My guess is so would Nate.

I'm not an advocate for Farmar at all, I'm just trying to provide a rationale for why the team is interested in him (assuming there even is a rationale).

I was replying to the poster who said the Mills wasn't productive. Well, when he played, he was as productive as Farmar.

Pretty sure I know the REAL explaination:

I was replying to the poster who said the Mills wasn't productive. Well, when he played, he was as productive as Farmar.

And like I said, you can't just use PER to deem productiveness for a guy that averaged less than four minutes a game in 10 total appearances. The sample size is too small.

I said he wasn't particularly useful, his 11.9 PER backs that up, similary I said I'd only trust Farmar slightly over Mills if only because he's got four years in the league ... I think he sucks too.

I'm not an advocate for Farmar at all, I'm just trying to provide a rationale for why the team is interested in him (assuming there even is a rationale).

The rational is that the last two PGs we got that had an over 15 PER when getting more than 20MPG were Andre Miller and Damon Stoudamire in 2004/2005 - and in the only year Farmar got to play 20MPG - he had a 15.4 PER.

So, as a 3rd backup PG on the roster (assuming we go with Miller/JB and rooks) - he is going to be more than fine - if they do not pay him stupid money, and given that he is only 23 years old, there is still a chance he would improve if given a more traditional for PGs system to play in (See what happened to Sessions in the triangle).

Farmar is not great, far from it, but as cheap insurance - he is more than fine.
