With the litany of injuries, I'm not asking for any blowouts...I'm just amazed and pleased that they keep winning games and playing even top teams (like Cleveland, Boston) so competitively that the games were essentially toss-ups.
pffft. Tanking doesn't guarantee anything; even the team with the worst record is only assured a top 4 pick and only has a 25% chance at the number one overall.
If a team can sell losing to ticket holders and advertisers, as a shot at getting a good draft pick then that's between them and their supporters. Truly successful franchises built to last have bigger fish to fry, like trying to add useful players through free agency and using their scouting to add useful players later in the draft.
And sometimes for those successful franchises that reach the end of their runs, 'tanking' is a perfectly acceptable method of getting back to their winning ways. The only real crime in the NBA is stringing together years and years of mediocrity, with no hope of a championship or deep playoff run in sight.
