The BMW PGA Championship, as it is currently known for sponsorship reasons, is an annual men's professional golf tournament on the European Tour. It was founded in 1955 by the Professional Golfers' Association, and as such was originally called the British PGA Championship. Since then it has had several sponsored names, but the phrase "PGA Championship" has usually been included in the name.

The PGA Championship is played each May over the West Course at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England. The PGA European Tour has its headquarters at the club and as the tour's home tournament, the PGA Championship is often regarded as the flagship event on the European Tour. It has usually had the highest prize money of any event which the tour organises, but this changed in 2009 with the introduction of the Race to Dubai, and the $10 million Dubai World Championship at the end of the season. There are other more lucrative events than the PGA Championship which are part of the European Tour schedule, such as the majors and the World Golf Championship events, but these are organised by other bodies. It is also the European Tour's designated "Premier event" for the purposes of the Official World Golf Rankings, with a minimum of 64 ranking points available to the winner.

In 2000, Colin Montgomerie became the only player to have completed a hat-trick of titles

Danny Willett leads by one in BMW PGA debut

Danny Willett marked his debut in the BMW PGA Championship with a course record 6-under 65 at Wentworth on Thursday.

The Englishman's round early in the day suggested that Ernie Els' (FSY) $9.4 million winter redesign of the historic West Course to 'give it teeth' had not succeeded.

Lowry holds on in top 50 at Wentworth

Shane Lowry slipped down the leaderboard at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth after a three over par 74 on Saturday leaving him in a share of 48th place on four over for the tournament.
His round started poorly with bogeys on the first and the third but he got his round back to level par with birdies on the fourth and the eighth.

Wood leads by 2, Karlsson shoots course-record 6

England's Chris Wood shot a 4-under 67 Saturday to take a two-shot lead ahead of Sweden's Robert Karlsson, who had a course-record 62 in the third round of the BMW PGA Championship.

Karlsson finished at 6-under 207, despite a quick turnaround from his home in Monaco after he thought he'd missed the cut. It's the lowest round since the European PGA event was first played on the course in 1955. He's tied for second with Danny Willett (70).

Re: Wood leads by 2, Karlsson shoots course-record 6

Simon Khan won the BMW PGA Championship by a stroke on Sunday, shooting a 5-under 66 to come from seven strokes back and capture a tournament the Englishman played in only after receiving a late invitation.

Fredrik Andersson Hed of Sweden (67) and Luke Donald of England (71) tied for second at 5-under 279, one shot back of Khan. Donald was tied with Khan with two holes to play, but double-bogeyed No. 17 after hitting his drive into the trees.

The 471st-ranked Khan was asked to play in the European Tour event less than 72 hours before it started.
