Bobcats interested in Curry? Why not Krstic instead?

The Knicks have made no secret that trading Curry would enhance their prospects of signing two major free agents in the summer of 2010. Charlotte has expressed interest in Curry, and people close to the Knicks center say that he would welcome a change of address.

"I don't know what's going to happen," Curry said. When asked about the Bobcats, Curry only said, "I enjoyed playing for Larry (Brown) when he was here."

Two weeks ago, Charlotte acquired Boris Diaw and Raja Bell from Phoenix, and the thinking among some NBA executives is that both players will eventually be shipped to New York in a deal for Curry and possibly David Lee.

Why wouldn't the Bobcats just take a chance on someone like Krstic if they have interest in someone like Curry?

Krstic would probably be a better fit next to Okafor anyways since he can step out and hit the mid range jumper and Okafor can operate inside. Krstic would be cheaper to.

If the Nets match the offer sheet for Krstic, then what would be the trade restrictions on trading Krstic to the Bobcats?

I don't think we'd be able to do that because the trade deadline is before the 60 day waiting period on free agent signings (I believe).

Either way, who would we find useful from Charlotte? We're not getting Wallace for Krstic, so that'd have to be a larger package. I wouldn't want Bell, we have no use for him because he'd be third-string to VC and Dooling. Diaw would help us out though, so we won't be forced to start Simmons or Hassell anymore.

If the team matches an offer sheet, they cannot trade the player in a sign-and-trade arrangement

Damn. There probably is a waiting period before Krstic can be traded then. Three months?

A year, or sooner if Krstic says OK - AND it can't be to the team making the offer that was matched.

Usually a player's agent will work out the S&T before the player signs a contract putting his team in the position of deciding to match or not.

I was positive Krstic already signed the offer sheet. Right? So then we couldn't trade him? Unless it was to OKC? Why so many question marks?

The offer sheet can be rescinded within the week if the three sides--Nets, Krstic and Thunder--all agree. At that point, they are free to do a sign-and-trade. Why would the Thunder and Krstic agree? If they thought the Nets would match, they might want to reconsider. If there is no trade or other player movement by Monday, I figure the Nets will decline to match on Tuesday and then we will see Krstic when the Nets play the Thunder on January 12, three days after the Nets play the Bucks and RJ. Old home week.
