My question is, do we want him? If Larry Brown doesn't want him, I think that's a bad sign. He strikes me as a guy who plays out of control and doesn't actually have a high basketball IQ. More useful for a scramble-up-and-down style.

A lot of discussion of Gerald Wallace is in the other thread on "Blockbuster move" which is a reference to the same article. In that thread there's a lot of enthusiasm for Wallace, the suggestion being that he's a slasher who can create his own shot. I'm not sure he can. I think he just scores most of his points in the open court. There's also the suggestion that he's been played out of position at PF and he'll be better at SF. But why would he have been played there if he was great at SF? I think he's like Shawn Marion: lacks SF skills so is FORCED to play at PF.

He's been played at PF because Charlotte didn't have a power forward worth playing. Have you actually watched any of Gerald Wallace's play? I get the feeling you haven't much (to be fair I've probably only seen him play maybe a dozen times) the guy is good, a much more natural 3 than a 4 (both athletically and build) and he is probably one of the best players in the game at getting to the rack, he's a very solid wing defender, and has a nose of rebounding the ball. He isn't quite an all-star caliber player but he's very, very close.

Gerald Wallace is an awesome player and Portland would be lucky to have him. The one thing that would worry me is he has had problems with concussions in the past, which could shorten his career.

BTW, Larry Brown has proven again and again he is a poor judge of talent. His opinion of a player is not really any indication at all of that players ability. It is more an indication of how much of a suck-up the guy is.

I have always like Wallace, but if there is one knock on him, at least every time I see him play, is that he plays good for several quarters and folds in crunch time.
