Bonds "cleared"

Asterisk or not, the guy is a HOFer, as are Clemens and Rose. I can see where this is going though, anyone in question doesn't get in until they get to Big Papi, then the tune changes.

One of the best hitters I've seen but this is not going to help him get into the HOF. Remember Clemens was cleared of all charges also.

...Bonds, Clemens, and Rose won't get in any time soon.

If at all I can see Rose getting in before the other two.

I don't get it, Bonds more than using PED's lied to a Grand Jury, and has no more right to be on a Baseball Field in any capacity, since Rose is NOT allowed on a Field, less the Commissioner's 1 admission to let Pete stand in on the Team of the Century, during the All Star game, quit some time ago.

Regardless of what one's stance is on PED's, no one here could perjure themselves, before not only Congress, Grand Jury's and other Court Appearances, or, we'd all be in for Life, behind bars. It's a sad day in Hell, when Money creates a double standard of Justice, for those who have it and those who don't. NTM- with these High Profile Players being household names, is our Legal System only a POS Legal Method to screw over the lesser fortunate's, while yielding to public figures? Bowing to those with plenty of $$$ to pay fines for restitution, in lieu of doing time behind bars....?

FK 'em all, "One and Done".......Zero Tolerance....!

When Shoeless Joe becomes a MLB discussion to allow the 2nd best Hitter ever to play the Sport, in lieu of Rose, Clemens, Balco Barry, then we will know MLB is on the right path, and not until then......Hell, I'd not let Rose in simply because of these 30 years of bullshit associated with Pete. NTM- his Memorabilia Show signings, which he hid from the IRS. Assuming the IRS is dumb/stupid is one of the biggest blunders Rose was involved in.....

As well as is typical with Rose, he failed to show any remorse for his actions, at least for the 1st 20 years of his suspension, one arrogant prick...!

...Clemens and Bonds may or may not get in during their lifetimes...and Rose will also eventually be inducted, but posthumously.

Not any more with the exception of Rose

I just don't think waiting for Rose to die is gonna be the best PR move for MLB. Reconciliation has much better play. Short attention span society just doesn't hold grudges. Just honor the guy for his time as a player, and ignore his time as a mgr., that's what the hall will do anyway.

I remember reading somewhere recently that the new commish has already allowed him to be a part of the activities in Cincinnati for the all star weekend.

At some point baseball just needs to make a reconciliation with the past. Otherwise they'll keep reliving the sordidness. Not approving or accepting things that were done, just moving on.

The man is 74 years old, its time he got recognized for what he accomplished ON the field. JMO.

...I also disagree with disregarding what Bonds, Clemens, Rose, et al did after their accomplishments or how great they were before their transgressions. I mean, I sure that at one time Bernie Madoff was a legit stockbroker, investment advisor, and financier...but that does not let him off the hook for what he did later on.

That the Boss received "lifetime or permanent" ban from baseball in 1990 (Fay Vincent) and reinstated in 1993 (Bud Selig).

Also we can add Mickey Mantle's ban, Willy Mays, Steve Howe, Fergie Jenkins....baseball bans can/are reversed. And I know you know this. You can't argue lifetime means lifetime because baseball has been horribly inconsistent. Guys were banned for coke in the 80's and not steroids in the 90's, 00's???

...uhhh, yes, "lifetime ban" means just that and it was clearly explained to Rose before he agreed to it. Steinbrenner's was never a lifetime ban, but I kinda thought that's where you might be going with this. Bottom line, Giamatti flat out told Rose that it was a "lifetime ban" and Rose willingly accepted it.
...and seriously, as far as Steinbrenner, Howe, Mantle, and the others you bring up, you're comparing apples to oranges...how can you seriously compare what Rose did to what Steinbrenner and your other examples did or even more importantly what Joe Jackson didn't do?. Joe never received any money, never attended any of the "meetings, and was stellar in the field and at the plate in the 1919 WS. Please explain to me why it's OK for Jackson to still be shut out of the HOF but your heart bleeds for Rose?
...every clubhouse since 1919 has a sign clearly saying that if you bet on Baseball you will be thrown out of the game, period. Rose clearly knew this and dug his own grave anyway. And to make it worse, he perpetuated his Baseball crime by steadfastly lying to the press, to us, and to his team mates who were made to look foolish for sticking by him. To this day, ask, Morgan, Bench, and other team mates what they think of Rose and whether or not he should be in the HOF. The ONLY reason Rose now shows any sign of remorse is only because he got caught...fuck him.

...and thankfully, the people who cast votes for the HOF are nowhere near as "forgiving" as others.

Rose will be fertilizer for Tulips, long before his name deserves to be mentioned in any HOF context.

Now Shoeless Joe, has more than paid his price, If his ruined career and Life weren't enough alone, NTM- the remaining ban of Shoeless Joe, is as odd, as banning a ghost....! Or- (The Ghost Joe has been since his passing...)

As we used to say when I was on active duty, you can get all the atta boys in the world it's the one ah shit that can knock your train off of the tracks. I could tell many stories of know it alls who are now in Leavenworth because they thought they could get away with anything.

What does baseball gain from banning Rose....especially today? With all the money in the game and gambling being that much more prevalent.
Come one, MLBPA sponsors a poker tournament in Vegas now.

But that isn't America circa 2015 anymore.

Better Question: "What does MLB gain by allowing Rose back into the sport????" Personally, I don't see any....?

We shouldn't even be mentioning Rose at this point, not until The Powers that be, wake up and place Shoeless Joe in the Hall dead front and center..........!

Rose IMO, and his Lifetime ban, is a a petty matter compared to Joe Jackson. When MLB first inducts and pays tribute to Joe, and until then; Rose is a non-issue, or fodder for the women in the Beauty Salon, ya' know with those bee hive hairdo drying machines.....!

Rose never cheated while he was a player.

Here's a scenario, What if he was voted into the HOF 5 years after his playing days & a few years later decided to manage & while managing he was charged with what he's banned for now, would they strip him from the hall or would a lifetime ban at that point be enough? Something to think about.

To quote Luke Skywalker, " let go of your hate.". :blazerwookie:

...sorry, but you ain't Luke Skywalker.

...and "hate" has nothing to do with it...did I offer anything other than facts?...can you offer up something tangible to dispute what I said?...and I'm still waiting on an explanation for Joe Jackson.
