I have to say I really enjoy Dave's writing over at Blazersedge. Sometimes though, he just outdoes even himself. I heard some of the booing after the Nic no-call towards the end of the first, but this description of it from Dave was awesome. Blazer fans be proud:

The already grumpy crowd (see also: scoreboard) went bonkers at the end of the first period when Nicolas Batum appeared to be fouled with a foul so foul-acious that it dwarfed many of the fouls that had been called in Utah's favor in the quarter. Batum converted the layup but no whistle blew. In short order Jerryd Bayless had earned a technical foul for protesting, which lit the fuse in the stands. In one of those "Only in Portland" moments a torrential flow of boos flooded the arena floor, reverberating so loudly that it hit the back walls of the building with force and redoubled. But these boos didn't stop after 10 seconds, or 30, or a minute. They sustained and grew through the long, long quarter break. It was like a weird, amoeba-like organism had formed out of 20,000 people which was now intent on sucking up the refs with a sticky, poisonous tongue of booing. About halfway through the break the arena staff put on film of Kiki Vandeweghe and Mychal Thompson talking about their Blazer experiences, this being 80's Remembrance Night and all. For a second the organism paused as if considering whether to take the bait and subside, lulled into submission by these fan-favorite players of yore. But the Boomoeba was angry and after that half-hesitating moment it doubled and tripled its efforts. Poor Mychal and Kiki couldn't be heard at all...and this is after the staff cranked the speaker volume way up. Anyone who's been anywhere near the Rose Garden knows those that sound system is LOUD. It was no more than a buzzing subtext rumbling impotently behind the Boomoeba's hunting call. It wanted blood and it would not be dissuaded from its target. The second quarter horn sounded and the booing was still as strong as ever. I have never heard anything like it. The refs did ease the calls from that point on. Perhaps it was the natural tendency to protect the losing team in a blowout, particularly at home. Perhaps it was the cover-your-butt thing they sometimes do to make the whistles even out. But I think the Boomoeba may have made their neck hairs stand a little. The Boomoeba is scary.

Batumshakalaka sparked a Boomoeba... I like it!

Dave is solid, its Ben at BlazersEdge that writes too much Crapzano type stuff. Often times that dude is just plain clueless.

Nice!

I agree, Ben doesn't hold up next to Dave. His writing appears to be aimed at possibly the younger crowd or something.

He needs to mix in a carriage return. That's way too much uninterrupted text for me to wade through on the Web.

We do not like it when you fuck with Batum. :pimp: The crowd gets angry. Very angry.

I was at the game and said this is by far the loudest I have ever heard the fans boo the refs. I was sure to give my input to them also. I even yelled at Ken Mauer to go back to Happy Days.

That is actually probably the 2nd angriest I have seen the crowd in memory. I remember an incident a few years back where it was the crowd looked to be on the verge of a full riot, and the referee's actually looked to be in possible danger.

This makes me proud to be a blazer fan.

That was literally one of the most incredible things I've seen/heard in an NBA arena! Gave me goose bumps.

If I'd known that would happen, I'd pay to be there just for it.

Me too. It felt more like a response to decades of ref ineptitude than a simple response to a handful of consecutive bad calls. It was a purge of pent up hostility we've all felt for a very, very long time. And God damn did it feel great!

I was there, and damn it was awesome!!!

Did you guys see the dude go over to the scorers table and offer the refs money out of his wallet..hahaha PRICELESS!

This reminds me of the game when we were playing the Lakers at the Rose Garden, and it was something like "Bill Walton Appreciation Night". They had handed out Walton plush-dolls.

The crowd got so pissed at one point they started raining down the dolls onto the court.

Priceless.

Last year when Ariza tried to cripple Rudy the crowd went apeshit insane. I seriously thought someone was going to charge the court.

I do believe the amount of anger directed at the officials last night shook them. I don't know how it couldn't. I know the horrific officiating starting getting better after that.

Was there a chant of "These refs suck" to begin the second quarter? I couldn't distinguish it on TV, but the crowd was chanting something like that after we had gotten a few calls in a row, and even Mike Rice was saying, "all right.. I think it's time for the crowd to cool it for a bit". It was pretty funny.

Yes, the chant tried to materialize two times but couldn't overcome the noise of every one else booing their brains out.

i actually heard utah sucks, not these refs suck, which struck me as odd, since utah was doing everything but sucking

I was at a game, maybe 7-8 years ago, when the crowd chanted BULL SHIT, BULL SHIT for a about a minute. I loved it, as the refs had been making bs calls the whole game.

Go Blazers
