A good topic given current events. I don't see how it could possibly be genetic for some very obvious reasons yet some people still argue it. Did natural selection have a part? How? It's the exact opposite of what natural selection seeks to accomplish. If it was natural then it would have died out long time ago cause there'd be no way to pass it on. Does anybody buy this ridiculous notion.

I don't think its genetic, but hormonal. So yes, born that way.

I think of it like this:

Our basic primal objectives are to survive and procreate. That's it. It's very hard to shy away from one of them. I don't want kids ever, but I still want to have sex (with a female), and one could argue that besides the obvious guy reasons for wanting to have sex, one of the reasons is because that is how to procreate. I'm driven to procreate.

A gay person cannot procreate if they had sex with the same sex. It's not going to happen no matter how hard they try. They are going against one of their most basic instincts. Something has to be genetically different about them.

Dr. Starr, a geneticist, said that "almost all the data shows that being gay is not a choice".
 
There are animals that practice homosexuality. These things can be passed through recessive traits.

there's no reason you would expect genetic homosexuality to die out if it is carried recessively among the gene pool of a large population. same reason red hair doesn't die out.

Curious, and not at all flaming you. I do realize that being gay is nowhere near being a pedophile, so don't go there, but many people claim that pedophiles are incurable.

there is evidence that susceptibility to it is tied to certain types of brain structure, so in that sense yes. presumably there isn't a "pedophile gene", just like homosexuality doesn't have to be tied to one specific gene to stem from genetics. it's more likely something that results from an overall makeup.

You use the word choose a lot in trying to tell me that there is no choice involved. Getting involved with someone is a choice so there goes your theory. People can do whatever they want, no one forces anything on you. In the end it is your choice. Is a guy that thinks about stealing a car a thief even if he doesn't do it? There is an action required and that is the choice. People get tempted with different things, it's what we choose to follow that condemns us.

There is only choice in choosing to repress it. I did not choose to be gay. I can choose to sleep with a woman or not, yes, but that (despite your best wishes to hope it were true) does not erase the fact that I am sexually attracted to women and not men; something which I did not choose.
