As much as I loved watching Brandon in his prime, I also believe that Lillard dominates the ball MUCH less and also makes his teammates better. He's not a Roy level finisher yet, but even if he never gets that, I'd still take him.
 
No opinions on this. I knew DL was having a great season, but hadn't really thought to compare it to Brandon.
 
How many meniscus's does he have still?
 
Damian is pretty much the second coming of Roy. They are similar in so many different ways. I hope Lillard surpasses him.

Roy was a slightly better finisher, but Dame is a slightly better shooter. So I think it offsets.

I think Lillard is already better than Roy was at his best.

Woah woah woah. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Roy in 08-09 was a consensus top 10 player in the league. Lillard is good but he has a long way to go.

Dame is into the ISO, as well. As in I SO want to want to play an integral part in making this team better and better.

I never thought Roy was as good as he was given credit for. I figure he was really in the 15-20 range. The ISO offense made him appear much better than he really was as a team player. Lillard has all of Roy's strengths with none of his weaknesses.

In what way was Roy better? He made his teammates worse, while Lillard makes his teammates better, and their individual production was pretty similar. I agree that it's not particularly close, but in Lillard's favor. Who do you think Aldridge and Batum would pick first as a teammate/leader?

I love Dame, but you do realize that after playing against Brandon...... Kobe, LeBron and Wade called Brandon one of the best players in the league. Dame will get his turn, but let's not forget how amazing B-Roy was on the court.

Oh, well that I don't agree with. I think if Lillard works on just a couple things and in a couple years he will be better than Roy was.

In comparisons, if you total an individual's deviances, the positive cancels the negatives and everyone is a zero. So what you do is square every deviance each person has, sum the squares, and compare total deviance. In this way you expand the large deviances and contract the small ones (if it's< 1, its square will be even further from 1 and almost disappear in the total).

So yes, there is.
 
Some of the posts in this thread and the Aldridge thread really have me questioning this place. Just wow.

At his peak, Brandon was considered the 7th best player in the league, right with/behind Deron Williams (when people debated his 20/10 years with Chris Paul for best PG in the league), and right in front of Paul Pierce when he was an all-nba player. Pretty ridiculous to say Lillard is better than Roy ever was. He's definitely gonna be super good though!
 
When will you guys understand that:

A) Some people will always take the other side of a debate, just because.

B) No matter what stance you take, someone will disagree.

Is Lillard better than Roy ever was? No.

Can Lillard be better than Roy ever was? Yes.

But I think these numbers pretty clearly end the debate over who was a better rookie. :grin:

Roy made 2nd team all-NBA because Kobe/Wade/LeBron were all first team, and there weren't any other good SG's left. 7th best? You might be confusing his rank with his jersey number! Look over the list of who was playing at the time and there's no way Roy was top-10. Top-15 is iffy.

This franchise became better in the long-run when Roy retired (the first time).

No one wants to answer my question about which of Roy/Lillard Aldridge and Batum would prefer to play with? Oh, that's right, too ignorant to be worth responding to.
