Braun suspended for the rest of the season

We’ll have some pregame notes in a bit, but right now, here’s the story of the day. Ryan Braun has acknowledged his use of performance enhancing drugs and been suspended for the rest of the season. Could have massive implications for Alex Rodriguez if the league has similar evidence against him.
Here’s the announcement from the league.

Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced today that Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has been suspended without pay for the remainder of the 2013 Championship Season and Postseason for violations of the Basic Agreement and its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension of Braun is effective immediately.

Ryan Braun said: “As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect. I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions. This situation has taken a toll on me and my entire family, and it is has been a distraction to my teammates and the Brewers organization. I am very grateful for the support I have received from players, ownership and the fans in Milwaukee and around the country. Finally, I wish to apologize to anyone I may have disappointed – all of the baseball fans especially those in Milwaukee, the great Brewers organization, and my teammates. I am glad to have this matter behind me once and for all, and I cannot wait to get back to the game I love.”

“We commend Ryan Braun for taking responsibility for his past actions,” said Rob Manfred, Executive Vice President, Economics & League Affairs for Major League Baseball. “We all agree that it is in the best interests of the game to resolve this matter. When Ryan returns, we look forward to him making positive contributions to Major League Baseball, both on and off the field.”

I feel if Arod had any hope, he should have been the first one, this takes away some of his tactics, the beginning of the end. He may never play in a Yankee uniform again. The year would not be all bad then.

Yeah lets commend him for that farce of an appeal and that self righteous press conference he held afterwards. The only reason he's doing this now is because the evidence against him was clearly undisputable.

And that is the truth. Now I can't wait for that poor collector who got vilified to sue him in Civil Court for deformation of character and the likes cause now he has admitted the usage, his defense will be "I wasn't then but I did now" lol!

I was thinking the exact same thing. COMMEND HIM!......commend him my ass. Now they should give the phonies MVP award to whoever the runner up was.

...no appeal by Braun either....ARod is toast. We will never have to seem him in pinstripes again.

...I think I'm gonna do a couple shots of Patron.

Shows you what kind of evidence they must have.

...and oh, Braun?...fuck you too.

...as well of the rest of the cheats...I think without actually coming out and saying it, the Union is going to back MLB on the suspensions...good for them...'bout time they took a stand..."for the good of the game".

Agreed 59 f u, braun. A little disappointed in length of suspension as sounds like suspension equates to about 60 to 70 games or so. MLB should have made him admit to last years ped case he slimed out of also so would have 2 strikes and next one out for life. Hope guy who collected his illegal piss last year sues the shit out oh him

Here is our opportunity, a toast, Good bye Arod, you piece of shit, Good luck collecting on the insurance money!!!

Don't we also lose Cervelli?. His name was also on that list.

Let him accept the penalty and look to 2014. I hate giving up, and I'm not, but with every night like last night (Red Soxs), this season is slipping away.

Don't forget Braun lying again earlier this year when he said his connection with Biogen was because his lawyers had consulted them in relation to his appeal.

IMO Braun's suspension should be longer. He avoided the 50 game suspension last year because of his bullshit. And now he's being tired into this new thing.

Bud light taking care of his family

He without a doubt deserves a longer suspension. What would be an interesting fact to know is whether or not he was receiving PEDS from the clinic after that failed test fiasco. If he was than MLB clearly dropped the ball.

my understanding was that he basically pleaded to the remainder of the season...

from what I understand, the evidence against A-Rod is more substantial than what they had on Braun...

So for his laughing in the face of baseball last season & now being attached to this bio place, we're only talking about approx 60 games. What kind of shit is that. Melky did his 50 last season & will probably get another 100 for his connection to the biogenics labs. And Braun gets 50.

Wait he plays for the Brewers. Seligs team. Oh now I get it.

...^^^...but the thing is, by Braun not appealing, it is admission of guilt, which by extension, gives even more credibility to Bosch and the evidence compiled against the other players who will also be suspended. So in a way, Braun is actually helping to bolster MLB's position in this whole thing.
...also remember, ARod also tried to interfere with the investigation by buying documents from Biogenesis. That is a separate offense and will add to the number of days he is suspended. ARod's problems are just beginning.
...hell, I wouldn't be surprised that they try to suspended him for life.

I think Arod ends up taking a deal for about 150 games. The rest of this year and the first half of next year. He then tries to get back, claims injury and the inability to play any longer and lets insurance pick up the remainder of his deal.

At least the Yankees are getting by this year without players in this mess on the field, other teams are winning games with players on the list, and let's be real, this list is just what's been exposed, the real list would include a lot of players we're not hearing about, most notably on the Red Sox.

Really is amazing how the sox seem to avoid these lists all the time. Either they are the cleanest team in baseball, or they are doing a much better job of hiding this stuff. Of course Manny and Ortiz were both zinged. Manny was disassociated with teh sox, and Ortiz was given a universal pass by every media outlet in the world with no real explaination as to why his BS excuses were any better than anyone elses.

Braun just really doesn't lose all that much here. He's still at the low end of his contract. Only making $8 million this year so how much does he really miss out on? He has seven more years as his huge extension kicks in for the really big money. I'm sorry but this is just a joke outside of the fact that he admits to wrong doing and deals with some embarrassment.

^^^like I said earlier, I think more than anything else, Braun's capitulation pretty much solidifies MLB's their stance and gives more merit to the evidence they have on the others.
...yeah, in a way he's getting off easy but he's actually helping MLB by waving the white flag.
...also, he made a comment yesterday that he "is putting this behind him". If he truly believes that is the case, he's a bigger fool than I gave him credit for. His reputation and credibility have been permanently disfigured. He will be loudly booed in every ball park he visits and probably will in Milwaukee too. And you also have to wonder how good of a player he'll be in the future without the aid of his "vitamins".

...the saga for all of these cheats is just beginning...and I hope every last one of them gets their just deserts.

What will be real interesting is that Braun is now in his prime and it will be great to be able to compare his stats next year to those of his MVP and recent years. What % of production will he decline at.

I was thinking the same thing earlier. It will be interesting to see how a guy like Braun performs for the remainder of his career. I think he will still be very good but I doubt we see him hitting forty homers a year.

...he's already begun being bitten by the injury bug...and his OPS is down 120 points already.
