I believe Haywood to be an ideal fit for our team the rest of this season mainly because of his ability to DEFEND THE RIM. Is there any chance the Blazers/Wizards would pull off a deal to bring him here?

I don't think they would want Miller (and I don't want to trade him) because of his salary going forward and they are trying to get rid of salaries - not add them for next year. Blake/Outlaw for Haywood works or Blake\DC\Mills would work too. I don't know that Washington makes that deal. If we added picks or cash?? If I'm KP, I would be exhausting all possibilities to bring this guy to Portland.

I don't see how. Unless the Wiz are super anxious to see McGee on the court. I guess if they were willing to take back Steve Blake and Travis' expiring deals and add in another prospect to get them interested it could work, but I'm not sure I'd be thrilled about renting him for half of a season only to see him walk. From a purely talent/need based perspective, I think he could work well however.

= perfect fit...

however and sadly kpee couldn't trade a hot fudge sundae to a 6 year old for broccoli

Is Haywood being shopped? I don't see who they run with at C, if they trade Haywood...Oberto?, Blatche?, McGee? Not a pretty picture.

Otoh, your trade would probably make BLAZER PROPHET smile. Iirc, he wanted Haywood over Zach on draft day.

Go Blazers

Everybody on the Wizards is supposedly available. Jamison supposedly wants out on top of that.

Not to be morbid, but I wonder how Mr. Pollin's sad passing affects their ability/willingness to make a deal?

pollin lived a long and wealthy life and it's not sad that he passed.

haywood's a perfect fit for just about every team in the league. the wizards should be able to get real value for him

haha i love this. as if kp wouldnt trade outlaw for him if he could...

what should he offer? Heywood is expiring, they are not only going to want another expiring back, they are going to want talent.

Gotta be at least a dozen teams interested in Haywood...

I just don't see how the Blazers pull off a trade this year. Nice thinking, but we don't have any chips.

I've been saying this for the last two months. He's an ideal fit and would save our season, IMO.

And I was right. Zach's a knucklehead. He and his band of merry men.

Why did I know you would say that? Zach is such a bonehead it makes it harder to argue against that.

But, I would point out:

ZR has scored 9200 points and gathered 4600 rebounds in his career, while BH had 4300/3500. Haywood plays better defense, but I'm not sure it makes up for all of the offense he gives up to Zach.

Go Blazers

I sure wish that Haywood didn't have an expiring contract. Why would Wash. trade him for more expirings? They're either going to want you to take back a bad contract, or they are going to want a young talent.

I really like this guy's game. A lot.

Take on Deshawn Stevenson. Give them our pick, lotto protected. Takes away a crap contract for next season,a dn gives them a pick.

Outlaw, Blake, Mills, and a lotto protected first for Haywood and Stevenson.

Saves them 1.8 this season, which is more like 3.6 because of LT. Saves them about 4 next season on Stevenson's contract.

Or, you can susbtitute one of our foreign prospects for the pick, if they prefer. Freeland, Kopo, Claver.

Haywood, Jamison & Critenton for Blake, Outlaw, Przybilla & yes Bayless...I'd even throw in a future 1st (lotto protected) if need be....

I think WAS is either in blow it up mode or darn close to pulling the trigger on doing that....Blake & Outlaw are expiring...Przybilla has an early termination (player option) which, even with his injury he would be likely to excercise...They get a young player Bayless and a future pick, and cap space, an essential to rebuilding.....

and before any of you whiners complain about giving up Bayless, or whining about the PG spot...let me explain a few things....

YOU CANNOT KEEP EVERYONE...In some regards POR has been lucky with all of these injuries\etc to Rudy, Batum, Outlaw & Blake...the minutes crunch just doesn't work...You eventually have to give up SOMETHING of value to other teams....and it is MORETHAN ABOUT TIME that KP realizes this, I don't like reading reports that KP acts as if he has 15 all stars on this team...You can't keep low balling other team with offers and expect to maintain ANY sort of credibility...Nor can you expect this packed roster to remain in "calm waters" forever....eventually you have to pull the trigger on a deal...or end up where we were last offseason...letting Raef's contract disssolve into nothing and floundering around with our cap space trying to find a FA...

I like Bayless as a player and he has value to other teams...in fact there are 3 guys NOT named Roy, Oden & LA who have the most value on our team and I think we all know who they are Rudy, Batum & Bayless. I would much rather give up Bayless than Rudy or Batum personally, but you could sub Batum or Rudy for Bayless I suppose...I sure wouldn't though....

Haywood and Przybilla are about a wash IMO...Haywood could effectively take over that back up (injury) spot behind Oden and he gives POR a chance to have a chance to make a playoff run THIS year.....I think that it has become apparent that with Oden, you have to have a decent backup behind him...

Jamison is that 3rd scorer that this team needs...I liken him to Maggete without all of the "get mine first" attitude\play style ....A solid player, VERY solid character with a few good years left in the tank...enough time to allow young players like Batum & (possibly) Claver to develop some more.....

Get it? He makes us a better team now...and paves the way for young talent to develop behind him more...what a concept...

Which leaves us with the PG spot....Miller, a guy used to playing iron man minutes...you have Rudy able to play some minutes there, and Roy certainly can as well...we are talking back-up minutes here people...you bring back Mills and you see if Crittenton can tap any of that potential that got him drafted, that he has yet to show....Another option is you tweak the trade to try to include Foye instead of Crittenton, and you give up and additional player like Cunningham or a prospect like Freeland\Koponen...This may be possible b\c Joel has a Trade Kicker clause and I think POR actually has some space under the cap still?

In the end, I like Bayless, but I don't see a young Kevin Johnson, or future Monta Ellis\Eric Gordon\Gilbert Arenas...I see a player who will be a good NBA player...and frankly I question his desire to remain with the team when his contract is up...He is a guy who wants to play...A LOT...and I am not sure POR will ever be able to give that to him...I think when the time comes, he will opt to leave regardless...

with Rudy, Webster, Batum, Howard, Pendergraph, Cunningham, Mills & Crittenton off the bench...POR could also look for a FA PG as well...a vet like (Damon Jones, Darrell Armstrong, Tyronn Lue, Jacque Vaughn, Brevin Knight, Will Conroy, Shaun Livingston, Salim Stoudamire or Roko Ukic)...I mean you are talking vet 3rd PG here, that is if Nate absolutely has no confidence in either Mills or Crittenton...

This also probably opens up space for Koponen to get a shot down the road...who has played pretty good in eurpoe...and just think of that lineup with Oden next year...even better...

You know what else paves the way for young talent to get better? Just letting them play instead of playing guys like Blake, who are never going to get better and you know exactly what you have.

I'd rather give up Rudy than either Bayless or Batum. Bayless and Batum are both younger than Rudy and I see them being starters on this team for possibly as long as a decade. I don't see Rudy ever being a starter as long as Brandon Roy is here. Rudy is better today, but for him to start would require either him or Roy to play out of position.

Bayless, other the other hand has shown me enough improvement recently that I believe he will eventually be our starting PG next to Brandon Roy. Barring a huge trade, it won't happen this year, but as hard as Bayless works in the off season, I could see him winning the starting PG spot as early as the start of next season and no later than the start of the 2011-12 season. In the meantime, he can be our sixth man and get plenty of minutes to develop backing up both guard positions.

Rudy is underutilized in Nate's system where he basically is just another spot up 3-point specialist. He would do better elsewhere and would start on many teams.

I hate to give up both Rudy and Outlaw as it severely hurts or bench scoring, but we have an abundance of guards right now and not enough healthy big men. Bayless will provide some scoring off the bench, and he's not close to ready now, but I could see Patty Mills filling that role a year or two down the road as a miniature Travis Outlaw capable of using his physical gifts to get off a jumper whenever he feels like it (i.e. whenever a teammate passes him the ball).

I don't think Mills will ever be the starting PG on a contending NBA team. In fact, I don't consider him a PG at all. His position is "scorer" - which is not what I want in my starting PG, but is perfect for someone providing instant offense off the bench. So, a year or two down the road I could see Bayless starrting with Roy in the backcourt and Mills being our 3rd guard to provide scoring off the bench. He could spell Bayless and when Roy is out, Bayless could move over to SG and Mills would guard the other team's PG.
