With the news of Whitney Kropp today, I thought I would ask people a question. If your son or daughter was being bullied, what would you do, and what would you tell your child to do? Also, she looks like a pretty normal teen, I wonder why she was being bullied?

No kidding. I know how my own experiences went, and thinking back on how I'd handle that as a parent... I'm not sure how well I would do.

It doesn't help that children are animals you can't put shock collars on.

bullying doesn't always to do with looks.

Kids (and adults) see a weakness in a victim/target, and seize on it. Could be weight, intelligence, appearance, economic status, maybe they stutter, etc...it could also have nothing to do with them as a person, just a group think.

Frankly it's one of the reasons I decided not to have children. I hated childhood and would not inflict it on someone else.

Too often the bullier is admired and the victim blamed. I am glad to see some initiative to change this but I think the support for the victim is still the exception. And anti-bullying initiatives have been blocked in some communities because there are some people who call themselves "Christian" who don't want LGBT kids included. Doesn't seem Christ-like to me but I'm Jewish, what would I know?

I love and adore all of my kids. They are the world to me, and enjoy them tremendously. That being said, if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably not have children.

I was bullied in grade school as I became an introvert when my mom died. Dad said the only thing a bully understands is a punch in the nose- and then keep punching. So I did. Twice. That ended it.

When my black belt teenage daughter switched to a new high school the class bully picked on her terribly. I forbade her to use karate except in clear self defense. One day (with 20 witnesses) she was being physically pushed by the bully and finally against a locker. My daughter repeatedly told her to stop "or else". Well, my daughter just flat out mopped the floor with her sorry *grotesque expletive deleted*. I was well please she followed my instructions and then kicked the hell out of the bully. After that the ex bully started sucking up to her and she said it was disgusting.
