Glad he never got caught in his time here. And man was he smart to stop once he signed that contract. He will one day be in the HOF and it will be because of his time as a Yankee. For a change we got the best of a player and let him walk. Instead of being on the opposite end of these shitty long-term contracts to post-PED 30somethings.

I disagree Blue, with the lowly numbers he's putting up in Seattle I think he's pretty much killing his HOF chances.

I dont think he'll be THIS bad this quickly. His power is out, but he should still be able to hit around .300 for 2-3 more years. He's already near 1900 hits and has 8 3/4 seasons left on his contract. He will likely be a DH in another couple of years. I think he gets to 3,000 hits comfortably and had enough elite 2B seasons in his 20s as a Yankee to get in.

I loved letting him walk and it had nothing to do with him personally. I'd never again sign a 30something to long-term big money contract. No exceptions to the rule. I dont care which superstar it is that next hits FA at 30/31 seeking the 7-8-9-10 year $20+ million per year contract. I'd pass every single time.

Cubans were where we should have been investing money the last 5 years, guys hitting the market in their mid-late 20s in their primes.

...sad thing is, there's not many players from the "PEDs era" as we call it, that are above suspicion in the minds of the HOF voters.

...Cano's 10 year deal will end up being almost as bad as ARod's deal.

It'll be interesting to see how far he'll go into the contract before the wheels start coming off.

...I'm guessing we'll start seeing a significant decline in 3 years...the last 5 year of that contract will be brutal.

And I honestly think we've seen the last of his 25/100 seasons.

short porch, bad boys around him in the order and playing for a contract. he is paid like he wanted and does not give a crap is my opinion. he was the best at his position while in new york that i have ever watched. total package. like what happened to every receiver that left favre and rodgers has had. zippo.

I'm in full agreement my old friend.

...and don't forget how he was "disrespected" by the Yanx.

...hell, Cano is not even the best 2Bman in the game anymore...there are at least 3 others who I'd take over him.

How much of that is the line-up he's currently in (little/no protection) and the field he currently plays the majority of his time at (pitchers park)? I definitely agree that he isn't playing for that contract anymore...

it's sad that the next payday is the only motivator for many

This year Cano (unlike last year) has the protection in the lineup with Cruz batting behind him so you know he's getting some good pitches to hit. To date however he's just not capitalizing on it. 1/11/253 with a .294 OBP.

I was curious... looked it up thinking maybe home field might be hurting him... home he's batting .289 and away batting .209... That's significant... His 1 HR came away, but 8 of 11 RBI were at home... so I can't figure it out with home vs away...

He's also batting better at night... .286 vs .129 with 8 of 11 RBI and the 1 HR at night, but he's had 4 times as many night at bats...

Damn you really did some home work. Good info.

Cano has yet to reach 100 runs or 100 RBI as a Mariner and he's played 1 1/4 seasons there on a severe downward trend. On a 1 HR / 44 RBI pace batting 3rd with Nelson Cruz protecting him. You know he is seeing some fat pitches given his slump and teams not wanting to put baserunners on with Cruz looming. This is Year 2 of a 10 Year deal..... OUCH

At least the last few years of that contract could get real ugly.

Year 2 of that contract is looking ugly. 1 HR and 11 RBI 1/4 into a season? He needs to play well pretty much immediately to salvage his season. He's been one of the worst 2B in baseball this year and that is saying a lot given how shitty 2B is. Jose Altuve & Dee Gordon are miles ahead of him for the title of best 2B in baseball this year.

The GM rule of thumb should be you don't sign guys on the other side of 30 to ten year huge money contracts. The Angels aren't seeing value out of that Pujols contract either. Cano could certainly still have a decent season but not the caliber that Seattle was expecting over the last two years when they signed him.

1 and 1/4 seasons isn't enough to see a trend... sorry, statistics wouldn't agree with you on that...

He's certainly not the same player he was as a Yankee & he really can't blame his lack of power entirely on the stadium because Seager had some pretty good power #s last year.

I will say this though... he's definitely have a bad 1st 1/4 of a season...

Maybe he'll heat up. Hell if he doesn't he's going to give the term OVERPAID a whole new meaning.

If Cano thought he was "disrespected in New York he'll get an upgrade version in Seattle when his contract outruns his ability, note Junkie Josh and the Rangers. And on 2nd Basemen if I wer to pick one to build an infield around I'd have to go with Altuve.
