Beginning in 2018, California law will have harsher penalties for health care workers who address a senior transgender patient with the “wrong” pronouns than for people who knowingly infect others with HIV.

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation on Friday lowering the maximum penalty for knowingly infecting or exposing a person to HIV to six months in prison — down from a maximum of eight years. Also last week, Brown signed legislation allowing for penalties of up to one year in jail for health care workers who “willfully and repeatedly” use the “wrong” pronouns to refer to a senior transgender patient.

Democratic state Sen. Scott Weiner sponsored both pieces of legislation.

Calling a he a "she" or "it" is worse, obviously.

Feelings matter, bro.

Someone who knowingly infects another indivudual with HIV, a potentially deadly disease, should be put away for a lot longer than 6 months. They are giving out a death sentence...they should get longer, in some circumstances, life

I'm trying to find how this is enforced. Someone says I did it?

Does there have to be a witness?

How many times is willful?

It is just so stupid it should be ignored.

Forget the pronoun side of it, why would Gov. Brown reduce the penalty for knowingly transmitting HIV, and by so much? @crandc , are the citizens of CA demanding that those who knowingly transmit HIV be given more lenient maximum sentences? Is there a groundswell of support for that population of sick folks who are wasting away in prison for an extra 7 years who should be back in society after a maximum of 6 months?

On a side note, "stealthing" is, as we speak, being judged as rape due to its non-consensuality. Which means that pulling off a condom during consensual sex can get you placed in prison for life, but knowingly passing on HIV gets you a maximum--maximum!--of 6 months.

Welcome to America 2017, fucking crazy land
Please don’t include the rest of America in your remarks. That’s like including the rest of America in North Carolina’s stupid gender neutral bathroom debate. That’s NC stupidness, just as the topic of this thread is California’s stupidness. Those kinds of moronic thought processes are hereditary in those places. Just because both those states have their heads up their asses on those particular subject doesn’t mean the rest of us necessarily agree....

But hey for the last time there are two genders. Male and female. Guess what? biology is a thing. Also males and females brains are different. You know where I learned this? biology. You live in your own little bubble though. How cute. Stop twisting this shit and polluting the minds of young kids. Shits stupid, people keep repeating this crazy shit

There are an infinite number of genders

Wrong. Oregon and California share the same political leanings.

Not precisely. In California it is somewhat less common to blame all problems on "those damn Californians".

Are we going to start punishing people for saying "hey guys" when you walk into a room full of men and women too?

Yes. Walking into a room that is already full is a fire code violation.

Thought crime is far more serious than crime. It has 2 words instead of 1 so should carry twice the punishment.

I personally cant wait till being a dick is illegal so i can hang out with all you cucks in jail.

In light of Slypokerdog posting the entire law, as opposed to just the pronoun and HIV bit, I've deleted my comments.
