The Blazers have a laminated motivational card affixed to the television monitor in the visiting locker room. It's titled, "We are Rip City." It lists all the ways in which the No. 4 seed Blazers will find a way to win this series against the No. 5 Grizzlies. It begins with "We will be tougher," and ends with, "Staying together through adversity." But the middle part is what has to alarm anyone following this matchup closely.

Because that middle section included such oddities as, "We don't lose to Spanish players," and "Nobody can beat us eight times in one year." Also, it includes a vow to, "Win the dog fight," and, "We will play as a team and outwork Memphis each and every night." Also, "We are better when we come to play," and a promise to be, "(Expletives) on defense."

I don't know... I don't believe for one minute that it said "we don't lose to Spanish players".....

Sounds like bullshit to me...

I read that from more than one reporter last night on twitter.

I thought the "We don't lose to Spanish players" was interesting.
I saw the article this morning. Figured this Spanish players thing would get more air time. If we were in NY or LA, this would be national news

What is the expletive? Shitty?
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Has Portland ever had a German player other than Detlef? The Spanish and the French are repped like crazy in the league, but all I've got is Dirk and the kid from Atlanta. Well at least us army brats rule the American National Team.

Holy crap, Quick and Canzano are stirring up all this drama shit during the playoffs, WTF! Now everyone nationally is quoting the player who said 50-50 for LMA staying, and now this spanish player thing, bound to cause unnecessary drama. FUCK these beat writers

I absolutely refuse to click on the link. I refuse to give that muck raking, rumor mongering coward a single page view. But, based on what I've seen quoted here, I don't get the connection between Damian Lillard, flopping and Spaniards.

Not that it rally matters, Rule No. 1, with respect to the local media, should always be:

Don't left a shit stirring fool like Canzano anywhere near the locker room without first erasing all white boards.

Because if you do, he will wait until the exact moment when he can cause the most damage and do everything in his power to create controversy out of nothing. Anyone who's followed the Blazers for more than 6 days knows this truth to be self-evident.

I'm 99.99% certain BlazerDuckSeahawkFan94 is right, that the comment about losing to the Spanish came from Batum. The French beat the Spanish for the European Championship last summer and there is a long standing rivalry between the two national teams. There is no such natural rivalry between any other Blazer and the Spaniards. If so, Batum should just come out and admit it was him and shrug it off as a glib comment between friendly rivals, not a team wide hatred of all things Spanish - which is how Canzano would like it portrayed.

Besides, until the Grizzlies eliminate us, he's technically right - at least as far as the playoffs are concerned. We lost to the Spurs last year, and they had one Virgin Islander, two Frenchies, an Argentinean, an Italian, a Brazilian, a Canadian, an Aussie and a Kiwi, but not a single Spaniard on their roster.

Yep, the two biggest muck raking, shit stirring sports writers in the country and we get stuck with both of them here in Portland. Rather than clicking on their links, we should start contacting companies that advertise in the Oregonian and threaten to boycott their products until the Oregonian fires them and hires some sportswriters more in tune with the sentiments of the local sports fans. You know, somebody who actually LIKES the team they are paid to cover.

My opinion of Stotts sinks lower, and lower...
What an idiot for allowing that to be printed. It doesn't help motivate the team in any way, but now that it's leaked does EVERYTHING to motivate the other team's best player. What a fucking idiot.

In a one sports town that loves the Blazers as much as Portland, it really is odd to have the largest paper in the city (I think?) clearly, actively working and rooting against the franchise and attempting to undermine them any chance they get. Odd that their shitty paper do it in the first place, odd that people read their shit at all, and odd that the Blazers still let them around the team.

Patterson was right, it's some erroneous subterfuge.

I wasn't aware that there was anything lower than negative infinity.

Negative infinity +1, duh!
In all seriousness, I do not think he's the worst coach by any means. I just don't think we should waste anymore time on him because he clearly (to me) isn't good enough.

So, who is giving Dame a free pass? Certainly not the posters on this board, not even his biggest fans (like me). He had a really bad game from the opening tip off. We all saw it, we all acknowledge it, and we all hope it doesn't happen again. I for one think he's going for 40 next game! :)

Please name his replacement, and show work. I'm willing to be swayed by a good case, but I can't think of anyone.

I used the read the Oregonian sports section every day during the season, leading up to the draft, during summer league, and during training camp and preseason. I haven't read it nearly 6 years, and not just because so much information is available online. I stopped reading specifically because of all the negative reporting by Quick and especially Canzano. The Blazers are my one, and only, favorite team. I refuse to support a publication that intentionally works to destroy anything and everything positive about that team.

I'm sure Canzano HATED last year. The 54-win, second round Blazers were one of the feel good stories of the entire NBA season - great guys who played hard and connected with the local community. Now, with all the injuries, at the first sign of adversity, the muck raking, rumor mongering, unnamed source, negative bullshit is back, like clock work.

Fuck Canzano! Fuck Quick! And fuck the Oregonian for giving them a paycheck and a platform for their self-serving negativity!!!
