Mixed feelings, he was an amazing coach but I believe he intentionally looked the other way with Sandusky.

now they're saying he's not dead?

Earlier Saturday night, CBSSports.com published an unsubstantiated report that former Penn State coach Joe Paterno had died. That mistake was the result of a failure to verify the original report. CBSSports.com holds itself to high journalistic standards, and in this circumstance tonight, we fell well short of those expectations.

CBSSports.com extends its profound and sincere apology to the Paterno family and the Penn State community during their difficult time.

He passed away during the night. This time it's official.

RIP

From now on, anyone raped at Penn State should just tell Joe Paterno's statue. It couldn't help you any less than the real Joe would have.

Good grief.

You know somebody for 20 years, and they are suddenly accused of a terrible crime, your first reaction is not going to be blind belief in the allegation.

Paterno was in denial. Under the circumstances, that was hardly surprising. If his superiors had acted on the information he passed on to them, would you still be upset with the way Paterno handled it?

While that may be true, there are laws that make very clear the responsibility to follow up any allegations of child abuse.

In a police state you must be an informer or you have broken the law forcing you to be an informer.

Hard to comprehend how anyone could just pass it up the ladder and not have the result of obvious inaction haunt you every day.

Now that he's dead what about the "people up the ladder", the Penn State administrators who went much further in protecting the pedophile. They didn't report him at all, making them co-conspirators under the law. Also, most states have laws demanding school authorities report all allegations of child abuse of any kind.

Seems somebody with a lot more money than Paterno is immune.
