"To pay for the new Federal Christmas tree image improvement and marketing program, the Department of Agriculture imposed a 15-cent fee on all sales of fresh Christmas trees by sellers of more than 500 trees per year (7 CFR 1214.52). And, of course, the Christmas tree sellers are free to pass along the 15-cent Federal fee to consumers who buy their Christmas trees."

To be fair, it was the Christmas tree industry that brought the idea to DC, but that doesn't mean they have to go through with it.

I think you mean "Holiday Plant Fee".

I think you mean "Holiday Plant Fee".

Yeah. There were some comments about that. They were saying if you buy "Holiday trees" instead of "Christmas trees" you can avoid the fee.

"You will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime."

I am not going to blame Obama or anyone, in particular, for this... but it's a waste of the government's time. Why does awareness and appreciation of Christmas trees need to increase? Why should the government do it? Why should the government act as a collection agency for what could (seemingly) be handled relatively straightforwardly through a trade association-type arrangement?

And none of those questions even touch upon the "separation of church and state" aspect.

It's just stupid.
