Any smokers in here?
 
I enjoy an occasional cigar. once every other week or so. Usually on a Sunday, catching up with friends from home on the phone, watching some football.
 
I've smoked an occasional cigar, but haven't smoked in a year or so. I've had the urge lately to get back into them. Being 21 though, I dont know many low budget ones that are good and I can't really afford the higher end stuff my dad smokes. Any suggestions? I've got a couple of buddies who smoke a lot, but they buy nasty gas station cigars.

They buy large amounts of cigars and then hand sort them and repackage them in Gerard boxes. They won't market cigars they don't believe are properly aged, and if you still insist on purchasing a particular cigar, they'll tell you that they're not good quality.

You can buy Cuban cigars from them because they remove the label and put all their cigars in Gerard boxes. They'll come in a package marked "an unsolicited gift of fine Dutch cigars".
 
Not really. I did have a Cohiba (cuban) last week in mexico though. I smoke cigarettes, but only socially.
 
Pretty much any decent cigar is okay, the key is that they're properly rolled humidified. 70-75 degrees with 70% humidity is optimal. They should have a slight give to them when squeezed between your fingers. Too tight and you can't get a proper draw. Too dry and they burn too fast.
 
Anyone try those RP Edge lite's? I've heard good things about them.
 
You'll also learn to know what you like--mild, spicy, etc.--as you smoke more.

Other than this site, what are some good ones out there? Famous? Thompson? CI? Jr's?
 
I just had one of these last week with some Macallan (not in a Manhattan). Really, really nice cigar. I'm by no means an aficionado, but it was the best non-Cuban I've had.

Fun story: my brother in the Navy was in Naples, and bought a box of cigars out in town. As he was coming back on board he was stopped for a search, and they found his stash. They were about to make him throw them away, when he said "they're not real cubans. You can tell because the label says "Habana" instead of "Havana" on it."

The customs guy let him on board.

I used to buy from Thompsons, but they stopped shipping to some states - some silly dispute over tobacco taxes. If they will ship to your state, I recommend them.

I had a cigar with scotch. Specifically, a Macallan. There was a long thread a couple of weeks ago about people who buy Macallan Manhattans and the douche-y-ness of it. I was attempting to make a funny.

I bought some Woodford, perhaps that's more appropriate?
 
Once again, why are you mixing good scotch/bourbon with vermouth? :dunno:

what's a good way to break into cigars? usually i accidentally inhale when I smoke them and sometimes I yak.

BTW, I love cigars. Smoke them every chance I get.
 
I've had a few that I really liked. Hoyo de Monterray Excalibur, a Cohiba, and a few others.

I want to get back into it, so I think I'm going to order a few of those sampler packets. I heard Thompson's was the most expensive, though.
