Great blog telling how much CJ wanted to be a Blazer. :D

"He was a guy that was in the gym every day," said Matt Logie, who recruited McCollum to Lehigh and coached him there for two years as an assistant before taking the head coaching job at Whitworth College in Spokane. "He knew how to workout. He wasn't just getting shots up, he was working on his game.

This was my favorite part of the blog....

"I had a chance to see it come all together on the court, despite the fact that he was a little smaller in size and stature at that time, I felt like his skill level was really high and that his upside would be really high-level for our conference, especially if he did grow into his body and match the size and athleticism of his older brother, Erick. I think it's a combination of what you see today, his knack for scoring and his aggressiveness on the court (that got him drafted), but also his humility and willingness to work for those results really stood out right away."

Sounds like a decent kid. I hope it works out here.

Yeah the kid is all class and he looks like he's a very hard worker. The humility is what really impresses me. It's refreshing because this league has way too many primoddonas.

Cautiously optimistic, but the dude sounds NBA ready.

Trail Blazers' CJ McCollum defies doubters, grows into fierce competitor

McCollum's path to the NBA was not an easy one. Over the years he's had to overcome questions about his height and build and background. He was a late bloomer barely recruited out of high school. But it was the combination of this background and these questions that shaped him into the player -- and person -- he is today. The Blazers say they can immediately plug McCollum into their rotation and count on him to contribute from Day One. But it's his fierce competitiveness and passion to prove naysayers wrong, no matter how cliche that might sound, that could allow McCollum to develop into a special NBA player.

So what about Batum? You saying Matthews will start at 3?

No, I think our starting lineup will be pretty the same with the obvious change at the 5. I'm guessing McCollum will be coming off the bench in a Jarrett Jack type of role as he acclimates himself during his rookie campaign.

Oh okay I must have misread you. It sounded like you expected CJ and Matthews to start.

I think you assumed that. Of course I didn't say McCollum would start or come from the bench from that particular post either.
