"Working with Steve Nash helped me slow down the game some more, helped me understand pick and rolls and how point guards think," McCollum said. "Having the ability to manipulate guys with your eyes, use you body to hold guys off and then just make the proper reads."

Nash gave McCollum some tools for balancing scoring and playmaking in an up tempo system, that will incorporate elements of the offensive style Nash popularized during his MVP seasons in Phoenix.

Nice to hear that. Hopefully CJ is not picking up any tips on defense.

Wonder why CJ went and not Dame.

Because Dame doesn't need PG improvement. He needs D improvement and Well Steve Nash. Hall of Famer, but with no D.

CJ, learned a lot from Steve just by his few comments, I could tell. How to manipulate your defender with your eyes. That's QB skill.s Look off your defender. This will open things up for CJ too. Im stoked!!! 42+ this season baby!!!

Can't hurt.

I beg to differ. He's nowhere near the playmaker that he could be

Not saying he cant improve, but would Nash be the best guy for him? I question that. They are already fairly similar players. Id much rather see Dame doing what he is doing. Be a team leader and work on his D.

Well tell me he wants to improve skills by one the best that seem good to me

So: let's get this straight. We're getting Ricky Rubio so that we can turn Lillard into a SG. Meanwhile, we're turning CJ into a PG. Let's turn Tim Frazier into a center!

"For the way we run our offense it's a lot of motion and spots are interchangeable so I don't think it's really a big difference (between point guard and shooting guard)," McCollum said. "It's more about pace and tempo and not over dribbling."

I am not a fan of CJ as a PG, but I feel a little better after reading these two points:

"He'll still see time at shooting guard, the position he played exclusively in his first two NBA seasons, but this year he'll also be asked to take on point guard duties behind Damian Lillard"

Having said that, Stotts better give him help bringing the ball up the court against the press. Actually Dame could use help with that as well.

Before we get too down on Dame and CJ, lets remember a couple things. In the last couple years, Dame had zero good screens, something that not only helps a shooter or guy cutting to the hole, but it also helps the PG move the ball up the court. I think we have younger hungrier guys that will play both offence and defense FULL court. Instead of mosey down the court and find your position to sit and wait for the ball to swing. This change will help Dame and CJ bring the ball up. We have more athletic scrapper players that will come back to the ball to help screen or take the pass. Dame had very little help and I remember specifically getting pissed a few times last year because it was obvious the other team was trying to shut D down, but no one came to him to help him move the ball.
A point guard moving the ball up the court will only be as successful as his teammates are at being in the right positions to help.

GFP (Great F'ing Point). What a let down the potential LMA/Dame Duo was. Screens being a major issue there.

Fishing disputes between Canada and the US are not an unusual thing. With the way Dame drinks, it is pretty good he did not make it south of the border (yes, Portland is further north than Toronto).

This is true. To this point in his career I've felt that Dame is merely an average starting PG, when it comes to the primary responsibility of the position. However, I am very curious to see if his play-making ability was overshadowed by LMA's ego - we should find out within the first 6 weeks of the season whether Dame is a better play-maker than he's shown thus far. I suspect that what we've seen is what we get, but I'm hopeful that he has more to offer now that he has the freedom to run the team without having to feed an ego.

If any of Nash's passing skills can be taught, I'm thrilled CJ took the lessons..maybe he can pass some of that on to the rest of the team

To be clear, I am hardly down on Dame for not being able to handle the press. Even the best PG's in the history of the league have had issues bringing the ball up court when they are doubled. My point is that CJ, not being a true PG, will need help because they will most definitely pressure him. We have seen that during the summer league.

And we have also seen teams like the Clippers, Spurs, and Suns, extend the D when Dame, Wes, and Nic were on the floor. Screens will help, but you don't always know when the trap is coming. We did a better job when we beat the Clips in OT by utilizing the alley oop and attacking the basket. But IMO what works best is having two PG's on the floor. That is why I like CJ playing SG in the 4th with Dame on the court too. Maybe Henderson at the SF. The more ball handlers the better.

One reason why the 77' Blazers were so good. They had two PG's on the floor most of the times with Twardzik, Hollins and Davis alternating along with a good ball handling SF in Bobby Gross. (And of course a great passing center)

Was C.J able to pick up Steve's court vision also?

I would say he learned some things from him to help his court vision. Where to look, where not to look, etc.
Much of court vision is your body stance and how you are angled to see peripherally what is happening around you. Based on what CJ said, it seems he learned some things on eye movement, body positioning, etc.
So probably.

ZZZZZZ.........Nice one yet again. Dissect my statement, pull 5-6 words out and then question it completely out of context. Are you and Tlong related? :) Isn't your time more valuable than that? ;)
Dame doesn't need PG improvement compared to CJ... you know ... the guy this thread is about? Plus I was meaning in context of him needing Defensive improvement much more. EVERYONE in the league can improve one way or another..... come on man... WTF!???!??!??!??!??!??!??!
