So much so that he passed on AJ starting for Pittsburgh and Cole will get the start. Sound familiar. I also heard that Cole was a Yankee Fan and drafted by the Yankees and passed to go to college. Nothing wrong with that just wonder how the hell the Yankees didn't keep watch and sign him before Pittsburgh could.

...Cole was drafted by Pittsburgh with the first overall pick in 2011.

And BEFORE THAT, the Yankees selected him in the 1st round of 2008 (28th overall). Cole never negotiated with the Yankees as he was determined to attend college (UCLA). Yankees were willing to offer $4Million signing bonus which was above slot...

what could have been

...yes, the OP brought that up too and there were about 2500 draft picks made in between the time the Yanx drafted him in '08 and when the Bucs drafted him in '11.

...a lot of teams could have drafted him again, including the Yanx, but after being spurned by him once before, they may have understandably been apprehensive to waste yet another pick on him...who knows?

2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 were college years which he clearly wanted to do... the 2011 draft was happening when he was about to complete college... The Bucs had the first overall pick that year which they used on Cole... kinda hard for the Yankees to get in front of first overall PLUS their 1st pick that year was #51 overall (18th in the supplemental 1st round)... why waste a pick in an earlier year when he had made it clear he was choosing college???
