If it weren't for S2 continually linking to the Oregonian, they would have no clicks. Why do people continue to link to self-loathers like Clownzano? I just don't get it.

Was canzano wrong in his article? Not at all. I thought it was well written and truthful. Id rather read that instead of an article thats homeriffic (havent read yours yet so no idea if its homeriffic or not)

I don't think think the article was anti-Blazer at all. He pointed out that Portland hasn't landed a big name free agent in quite some time (if ever really) and he was curious if this year would be different with organization seemingly better equipped to do so. Something most Blazer fans have talked about for a while. It wasn't much of an article really, more like something you would read on here.

what was inaccurate about the article? He said we'll see if anything has changed, re: Free Agency and the city of Portland.

We will find out pretty soon. I hope we can land some big names. But nothing about the article was unfair.

Brace yourself. Canzano has written another of his anti blazer articles about Portland's chances in free agency.

My article on Blazerland.com is far better.

Canzano's article was SPOT on. He said nothing negative towards the Blazers. He spoke truth from history.

You literally said the exact same thing he did. All you did was throw out FA names you want Neil to go after.

I am not saying this to criticize your article, it was fine. Just don't bash Canzano and then literally say the same damn thing

On second read there is less cynacism and pessimism than usual

Actually, I wrote my article first. But yeah, I spoke too soon this time. I guess when I read his article initially I did so with my hate canzano colored glasses on

Canzano doesn't write articles. He writes columns. He's a columnist, which means everything he writes is his opinion. And in this case, his opinion is completely reasonable.

For once

I don't read his article never have his job is to write about the Blazers so that what he does. We have opinion and the writer does too. Do we agree with they write not always that what free a speech does for us.

How does one "mostly" bid against themselves? They either did or they didn't at the time.

It's all true, both articles....Thursday 9:00pm PST is a monumental moment in Blazers direction. We need Whiteside, Horford or Howard. If we cannot add a prime-time FA - or use the cap space in trade for similar - we are forced to trade CJ or Dame to get better/different. Our other assets don't add up to prime-time.

Its a moment we've created and waited for. Now we have to trust Olshey to deliver. Anything else leaves a bitter taste in our mouths all summer long and maybe for years to come.

I don't care if he's right. He may be for all I know. But reading a Canzano column is like someone pouring sugar in my gas tank while squeezing lemon juice on my paper cuts while describing the contents of my colon. If there's bad news.... he's the last breathing mammal I want telling me.

This is something only a few people here seem to understand

If you talk 100 monkeys and give them a typewriter..... then let them bang out the results for a few hours and put it in the largest state publication..... I'm sure a few would be interested enough to look at it. You'd only have to pay the monkeys in bananas though.

LOL ya, he's awful

Canzano is an eight-time Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) award winner. He's won APSE awards in four different writing categories (column, investigative reporting, enterprise and projects), with his most recent award coming in 2015 for column writing. [4] In 2010 [5] and again in 2015, [6] the Society of Professional Journalists named Canzano the National Sports Columnist of the Year. In 2009, Canzano was voted America's No. 1 sports columnist by the APSE.[7][8] In 2007 and 2008, theAssociated Press named Canzano the nation's No. 2 sports columnist among large-circulation newspapers, with Canzano finishing second to the Los Angeles Times’ Bill Plaschke both times.[9] [10]Canzano was recognized by The Press Club of Atlantic City as national sportswriter of the year in 2004, 2010 and 2014.[11][12]

Canzano's investigative work and reporting about Brenda Tracy, the survivor of an alleged gang raped by four college football players, was recognized as the best sports writing in 2014 with a first place in the National Headliner Awards.[13]

In 2013, Canzano won first place in Special Topic Column Writing in the Best of the West contest for his portfolio of columns that included a column on a soldier who died in action in Afghanistan and Canzano's own experience coaching a girls fourth-grade volleyball team with a player who has Down Syndrome.[14]

In 2002, Canzano was named the nation's top investigative sports writer by the Associated Press News Executives Council[15] for his enterprise piece on Carlos Rodriguez,[16] a 21-year-old Dominican basketball star who was masquerading as a 17-year-old high school basketball player.

Canzano is a five-time Oregon Sportswriter of the Year winner.

I haven't read the article, so I'm neutral, so I speak with authority on this matter: Canzano is full of shit.

Canzano isnt a blazers or ducks or beavers or whatever fan. He doesnt commit to being a fan so he can try to call the team out on bullshit and not write things only with rose colored glasses.

Is canzano a douche? Sure. Is he a bully? I think so.

Is he a bad writer? Absolutely not.

We all have our opinions. I respect yours. If you like his columns. More power to you.

Yeah, I don't really see that Canzano is saying anything that we haven't said around here in multiple threads. This is a BIG summer for the Blazers. If Olshey can sell the Blazers' future to a big FA, or if he can work some trade magic to bring in a third major piece, the Blazers can become contenders. If not, they're stuck in meh-ville.

It's hard to be wrong if your entire article is just a series of obvious statements and rhetorical questions. A complete waste of time.

Still, the statement, "Because when you can't sell nightlife, beaches and the ability to secure large-market endorsement income, you must sell free agents the chance to win a ring", is in fact inaccurate. Lillard has had a ton of success securing "large-market" endorsements.

And the statement, "But Olshey -- who is great in a news conference -- has yet to make a move that lets anyone know what kind of general manager he really is", seems inaccurate considering last off-season's series of moves that resulted in making the playoffs despite losing 80% of their starting line-up. Moves that resulted in Olshey coming in 2nd for executive of the year. It's short-sighted to grade a GM solely on whether or not he's signed a max-contract player.

Then why does he repeatedly say "we", instead of "Blazer fans" in his article?

Especially when you think about (and I think it gets a little lost in the shuffle of adding the major FA this year) its almost amazing that he has been able to produce 2 players with star/superstar potential without doing so in free agency. Whether people want to consider him lucky or not he clearly has a good eye for talent. There is not a GM in the history of the league that has batted a thousand.

Lillard is a unicorn. Have we ever had a player close to him on a national level?

Roy had some success, so did clyde, but aldridge did shit.

Lillard has it all really. Hes just very marketable. Whiteside wont be as marketable here so we cant really sell him on something like that.
