At least the major media isn't pretending to be unbiased anymore.

mountain, mole hill. I believe you've met.

How soon before that's corrected? Without clicking on it, my guess is that's a link to the Milwaukee event. It does look bad, however.

Sadly, imho, that ship has sailed, hit a reef and sunk. the media is in the back pocket of the parties, and at this point it's no longer a surprise when someone does something like this.

It's a tweet for Pete Hamby's sake. At least he didn't include a picture of his junk.

barfo

It's kinda funny. Hannity has always claimed his is an "opinion-based program". Is there supposed to be some kind of line between "opinion" and "unbiased"-based reporting when it comes to the press?

wait, I'm thinking those are faked tweets of Hannity's...

a show can be the straight news, or it can be an opinion show

if a channel shows a bunch of right/left winger "opinion" shows, you can kinda guess their lean, no?

its fucking entertainment at the end of the day

Tweets are not journalism, they are a form of personal communication, much like a telephone.

Journalists have every right to vote and to help their guy win on their own time.

They have a right to vote.

However, journalists actually have what's called the canons of journalism. Among these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journalism_ethics_and_standards

While various existing codes have some differences, most share common elements including the principles of — truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness and public accountability — as these apply to the acquisition of newsworthy information and its subsequent dissemination to the public

(tweeting is dissemination of information to the public)

(tweeting is dissemination of information to the public)

You edited out the important part of that phrase.

Tweeting is NOT the dissemination of "newsworthy" information to the public. It is mostly mindless drivel sent out to nobody in particular by an individual's need to feel somebody gives a shit. Like a message in a bottle.

Setting that fact aside for a moment, I see no violation of the canons of journalism in tweeting or printing facts about a Presidential campaign.

Except if fails these tests of journalistic ethics: objectivity, impartiality, fairness

Pretty simple--when he uses a handle that includes "CNN", he's clearly acting in his capacity as a CNN reporter. If he wanted to tweet personally rather than professionally, he should have a separate twitter handle for personal tweets.

In what way?

He tweeted facts and nothing more.

He tweeted the facts and ended his tweet with an advertisement to donate to Obama's campaign.

Omit the link to donate.barakobama.com, and his tweet would have been fine.

Maris, that is the very first time you have made a political post that had even a shred of common sense. In fact, it is totally right.

What gives?

He included the link to show exactly where the breaking news of Obama going to wisconsin came from. It was the only place thus far it had been reported. If the Blazers on their website break a story, and then an ESPN journalist linked to that story to share the breaking news, does it make him a Blazers fan?

...and consumers of news should be able to state the conflict of interest of CNN having an Obama shill following the Ryan campaign.

I do agree with you, though. Dan Rather used to speak at Democratic functions all the time in Texas, yet he never let it impact his professionalism, or damage his career and legacy. :MARIS61:

When this board finds biased personal observations in Oregonian blogs, PapaG defends Canzano and says that blogs and tweets aren't articles. Now, he wants journalistic standards upheld in tweets.

Right. The news source was a site that happened to have the word "donate" in the URL. He simply linked to his source and PapaG was paralyzed in terror.
