Coaches challenge

I don’t think coaches use these correctly. They are more concerned about getting points than saving fouls on a crucial player. Countless times I’ve seen a call that almost certainly would be reversed but coach tries and save it till end of game. Then the challenge doesn’t even get used.

Several times the call would have saved crucial foul on someone like Nurk who then has to be used sparingly for remainder of game. I would argue that saving a foul on a crucial player is just as important as getting two points at end of game. Opinions?

players are usually convincved theyre right, so you cant really believe them, but thats why you as a coach should know when to step up and when your important player is in foul trouble, you should probably use the challenge

i remember the foul call on nurk when he blocked the dunk attempt, on replay it looked like a clean block and it reminded me of the foul call on nurk when he blocked the giannis dunk attempt, man that vas savage

That's a good argument. The challenge is still relatively new. Coaches are still getting used to when/how to use it during games. Like Robot was saying, you see a lot of moments where players are getting fouled and then yelling at their coach to challenge. 3/4 of those are really fouls and the player overreacting. Coaches need to be careful and opportune with their challenge.

Most coaches see saving it till the end of the game as priority as many games come down to fouls or an out of bounds call. But, yeah using it to save one if your best players from foul trouble is just as important. You need them to play as much of the game as possible.

I have seen coaches waste their challenges early in the game, to get a couple extra points or stop the other team from getting a basket when the game is within a few points. It's stupid.

We will see coaches adapt in the coming seasons to using them better. The rules will probably change too so it can used differently or eventually coaches might have more than one or get it back if they use it successfully.

The only thing I think about the coaches challenge that needs to change is the shitty rule itself. I realize people don't want to slow the game down more but the main objective should be to get things right. So I think the coaches should have two chances at getting the challenge right, in other words if they get a challenge wrong they still have another one but any wrong challenge would still cost a time out. At the same time the coach should have unlimited correct challenges that don't cost a time out. It's just that simple because then every obvious challenge would be made and the game would be officiated much more closely to the way it should be.

At that point coaches would make challenges at the right time because they wouldn't have to be worried about the two shitty things that happen if they use their challenge early. The first is that even when the coach is right to challenge they can lose it because of the refs' bias towards their original calls. The second is that even if they do get a call overturned they then automatically don't have the ability to make things right when the game is on the line.

I'd be ok with coaches getting a challenge for each half. But I'd require the officials to either chnage the call or let it stand after 30 seconds of review. If you have to replay a half dozen times and still aren't sure, the call stands

Fouling out of a game after a certain number of fouls should be eliminated. It's a stupid rule that hurts fans and refs not wanting to call a 6th foul on a star player.
