I'm hoping someone might know about duct work. Just in the last day, our cold air return started making a whistle sound like a tea-kettle. We've been in the house for about eight months and it hasn't happened before. It has happened at least three times that I've caught. It only lasts for one to two minutes. Looking around online, people have mentioned pumps being the wrong size for the grill. But that seems like a problem which should arise sooner rather than just now, since we've had no work done ourselves. I would guess something has come loose, but I was hoping for more than just a guess on my own. Thanks!

It's springtime so most likely a family of snakes have hatched in your duct work. You should call around and see if you can rent a mongoose.

Sometimes you need to change out for filter. Sometimes you just need to readjust your filter too. Since it hasn't been on for 6 months or so, it could be knocked off and have a small opening. That opening will whistle.

Thanks Mags, thanks SlyMongoseRenter

Most likely Homeland Security installed one of their microphones improperly. If the noise is so loud that you think the mikes cannot pick up voices, you could make a sign from cardboard that says "Please fix microphones" and hold it up. Expect a 3-5 day wait.

While you might be tempted to do and say various things while the microphones are out of order, remember that Homeland Security has a variety of tools to enhance recordings.

You could aim a bug bomb in there, then afterward if you don't hear rattling beehive parts, send a weasel or a polecat up there to sniff it out for varmints. If the cridder gets real excited, shoot some Draino down the hatch.

Okay, I'll get right on the sign making. Do I need to orient it in a direction?

I think you meant I should put the pesticide in the heating vent, the cold air return goes out of the room.
