ESPN says it was clocked at 87 MPH

I don't remember where I read it, but supposedly Kap could throw a 92 mph fastball in high school. Pretty impressive.

You likely didn't read it. It was said by the announcer right on the video of him throwing the fist pitch. Now where he got that tidbit from (or if it is even legit) is another story.

Giants could prolly use him this year

And tlong, you are such a hater

For somebody like myself who hates everything about baseball and doesn't follow it, is this good or bad that he threw it 87 and why is this thread worthy?

Sent from my baller ass iPad FAMS!

Because many Major League pitchers top out at 91-92, and Kaepernick went out in blue jeans, sneakers, and threw one pitch 87. It's impressive for a guy to throw a first pitch that hard. He probably could have been a great MLB pitcher with that arm.

threw 2 no hitters his senior year in hs, era under 2, with more than a strikeout an inning

Damn! That is impressive. Our next Bo/Dion?

Roger Clemens could throw 118 MPH fastball.

Nope. I don't think either one played after HS. Got married, got a regular job...as far as I know. Most of my guys played for the fun of playing, not because they saw it as a career path.

Interesting, Roger Clemens isn't even in the top 5 for the fastest fastball and yet they call him the Rocket Man?

There are several million people in America who can throw 87mph.

Just like there are several million people in America who can play guitar as fast as Steve Vai.

Two things

Wilson made news earlier this month when the Safeco Field scoreboard registered his opening pitch at 98 miles per hour. It turns out the Mariners exaggerated for effect, as the pitch actually traveled 75 miles per hour.

Kaepernick, who added more than 40 pounds to his 6-5 frame in college, was a rail-thin pitcher in high school with a 92 mph fastball and enough command and skill to throw two no-hitters and get invitations to national showcase events.

How many people can throw 92 mph Maris?
