It wasn't supposed to be like this for the New Jersey Nets, struggling with a 7-11 record and stuck with a four-game losing streak.

After losing to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, the two-time defending Eastern Conference champions are just 2-6 at home. They didn't lose their sixth home game last season until March 16, when the season was 66 games old and they had amassed 27 home wins.

The Nets basically have the same roster as the team that lost to the San Antonio Spurs in six games in the NBA Finals just five months ago.

So, what's the difference between last year and this?

Byron Scott, the embattled coach who is still without a contract for next season, says he sees no single factor.

"I think it's a combination of things," Scott said after Thursday's practice. "I think we've had a stretch of slow starts in the first quarter and that has dug us some holes to climb out of. I think our rebounding is off and we're not playing defense like we're used to playing. There are three or four things that we talk about."

Scott thinks an underlying factor might be a lack of passion.

At the end of last season, I dont think anyone would have predicted this.

I think Scott is right, I havnt seen the Nets playing with enough passion this season which is probably because of their success last season in the playoffs.

They should come into games with much more energy, and really strive for the victory.

These are just my opinions ,what do you guys think?

You know what I think? Time for Scott to leave. I believe that they have enough motivation to win games (Zo's sudden retirement). Jason Kidd has been running this team for the past years, not Scott.

Yeh I see what you mean.
Who would you replace him with?

I'm still thinking of the best replacement. I created a thread with that topic so let's keep this thread on topic shall we?

I also think that they were kinda caught off-guard with their injuries during the start of the season. You know, chemistry and all those things. Jason had an injury. Plus K-Mart among others. They were disoriented and it's signs are still showing up to now. They're now starting to play as a complete team. Only time will tell for their turnaround.

Ive never felt that Scott was that great of a coach, I always felt that Eddie Jordan was the mastermind of the team and that Jason Kidd self consisensly (sp? I suck at spelling) dictated the flow and the style of game the Nets would play.
