Two activists who filmed undercover videos of Planned Parenthood charged with 15 felonies

The two antiabortion activists who mounted a hidden-camera investigation against Planned Parenthood officials have been charged with 15 felony counts of violating the privacy of health-care providers by recording confidential information without their consent.

In announcing the charges against David Robert Daleiden and Sandra Merritt on Tuesday, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said the duo used manufactured identities and a fictitious bioresearch company to meet medical officials and covertly record the private discussions they initiated.

“The right to privacy is a cornerstone of California’s Constitution, and a right that is foundational in a free democratic society,” Becerra said. “We will not tolerate the criminal recording of confidential conversations.”

The criminal complaint alleges that on 14 occasions, between October 2013 and July 2015, Daleiden and Merritt filmed people without permission in Los Angeles, San Francisco and El Dorado counties. The activists face a felony count for each person covertly recorded, and an additional felony charge for criminal conspiracy to invade privacy.

The charges mark a major turning point in a case that had drawn national attention from both sides of the abortion debate and led to investigations — but no charges — against Planned Parenthood in 13 states. The secretly recorded conversations dropped during the politically tumultuous summer of 2015, amid a crowded field of Republican presidential contenders, and turned Daleiden into the biggest star of the antiabortion movement. The heavily edited videos attempted to discredit Planned Parenthood, long a target of the right, and galvanized conservatives’ efforts to pull funding from the women’s health organization and other family planning programs.

The court fight over the videos began in April 2015, when Daleiden and Merritt made site visits at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast headquarters, using fake names and driver’s licenses to portray themselves as a company interested in connecting Planned Parenthood health centers with research studies. The two antiabortion activists were actually affiliated with Daleiden’s little-known antiabortion nonprofit, the Center for Medical Progress.

Indictments are easy, getting a conviction is another story. They are going to have the best defense angry Planned Parent haters can pay for.

Question though, just curious. If Planned Parenthood is essential to womens health, why are they only located in the North of the Willamette valley?
Is that Democrat-ville or what is going on here?

It's almost as if there are clinics where people are, weird!
Maybe because humans go to PP, and not farm animals? Run that same map with livestock veterinarians.

Because you say so off the top of your head? It's not a witch-hunt. These motherfuckers knew what the fuck they were talking about. They knew that they were lying through and through when it came to Planned Parenthood. Republicans know that they're lying about it now. The problem is they don't want to help an organization that helps poor people. So while Donald Trump is ending his war on coal, maybe we can end this war on poor people too.

They wouldn't prosecute if it wasn't planned parenthood. the Attorney General is Xavier Beccara who is a piece of shit. They are just butthurt about Trump winning and this is nothing more than political retribution.

Duped how? Set aside how they got the videos, or even how heavily edited the videos are, they still have video of some people admitting to some pretty fucking horrible behavior.
 
Um, doesn't the fact that they're being sued show you that people were filmed saying the shit they've been proven to have said? Sure, these folks may go to jail for illegally taping people talking about how they illegally slaughter and sell fetuses for massive profit, but you have not shown the connection that says PP doesn't do that. Fact is, they do. Fact is, they lied about it before and after. Fact is, they're on tape saying it. Whether or not that taping was illegal.
For some reason you want a fetus-killing and -selling factory available to anyone. That's cool. I don't, and I sure as shit am not "duped" by more information coming out that PP is one of the organizations I find most abhorrent. I'm already there.

PP's ultimate goal is the sterilization of colored people all over the globe, so their "offices" are located accordingly.
 
No law anywhere in America against recording people without their consent can be credibly enforced as long as our government continues to illegally record and preserve private citizens's phone and internet interactions.

I'm am just stunned over your post. You're one of the smartest, most informed, and one of the people I respect most on here but there is so much misinformation in your post.

I know for religious reasons you are against abortion and I am perfectly fine with that but lets take a moment and try and take an accurate look at what is really going on here.

After the abortion procedure you have one of two things, medical waste or medical tissue. There is a legitimate medical need for this tissue. There are costs involved in preserving, testing, typing, and processing this tissue. The legitimate medical and scientific companies and organizations that need this tissue pay for it. All of this is being characterized as PP selling bags of dead babies out the back door. That is not what is happening. It's similar to the Red Cross, people donate blood and the Red Cross tests, types it, preserves it, and processes it, then they sell that product to hospitals and other medical and scientific organizations. While the blood is given to the Red Cross no one expects the Red Cross to give the blood away for free because of the costs involved in processing. This is the same for PP.

The vaccines that I assume you have given your children were developed using fetal tissue. Treatments for cancer, diabetes, birth defects, HIV, multiple sclerosis, ALS, and Alzheimer's all use fetal tissue. The polio vaccine was developed using fetal tissue. The list goes on and on.

If the place is the necessary harvesting facility, suppling the material need for all the good works you list. Used in very profitable industries, why the hell does the Government need to fund the

No government funding goes to Planned Parenthood for abortions.

Why do we need these people doing 42% this and 34% that, with 9% of these? Everybody has Obamacare now? An Walmart sells the month supply for 9 bucks that goes on the Obamacare insurance everybody has!!!!

Seem like the only thing left for these folk to do that isn't duplicate of what is available almost everywhere, is the 3% which of course, we do not fund for sure for sure.
But... I don't get it.

Walmart also sells a month supply of aspirin for $4. Since aspirin prevents heart attacks why does Obamacare pay for other heart medications?
 
I'm all for abortion. I think it's great. It's a public service. It should be more readily available.

I don't understand the "duped" comment though.

That video seems to show some real shady shit.

I don't care about selling aborted fetuses. I encourage it. Good for science, good for the economy. Good times had by all.

But they seemed to know they were doing something illegal. So again, I dont understand the "duped" comment.

Also, she was talking about aborting babies that come in after they're already delivered... pretty sure that's just murder lol. I think it's too late to kill the baby after it's been born. I guess 9 months can really sneak up on some people?

They should start offering money to people, for them to be sterilized. I will gladly pay for that. This place is too crowded as is.

Actually the Dollartree will get you asprin for one $.
But they won't do the 3%, so my calculus says that is the only reason we fund PPH. But why do we do this for only the North end of the Valley? Something not straight up here!

Dollar Tree aspirin is manufactured in China. Walmart in Canada. I try to avoid buying China made medications.

I am not going to argue with you but I don't see why with all the good work going on harvesting for several businesses, why the government has to subsidize it under some other hoax functions.
