...Girardi and his family are said to be very happy in Westchester and has recently said that he is not as drawn to Chicago as he once was.
 
Considering he would have to uproot his family, and he being a family guy, one would think they or any team would have to offer big money to even be considered, but I also think NY is going to want to keep some sort stability to this mess, so they'll offer him top dollar IMO, but if the Cubs offer is way high what can they do? there is no reason to get crazy with the managers salary.

True... BUT... if he does get lured away... who do you replace him with? Not many viable options out there... not that it really matters as this team isn't going to be competitive for a few years....

But seriously the Yankees would have to go with a nobody at that point, as much as I want a proven winner the guy is just not there to have, Pena is probably as good as anybody for 2014.
 
I do find it odd he hasn't accepted the offer that was presented to him on Friday. The more time that passes and he does not accept I will begin to wonder if he has his doubts about coming back to the Yanks who could be a train wreck next year.
 
If Joe G values his place in baseball history, he will run to that cubs job. Good crop of youth there and in their farm the yankees simply dont have. He's already won with the yankees, and 2009 is looked on by many as the year the yankees bought their latest ring, ie he gets very little credit for the win. I know his family is here and that could be the sticking point for sure, but the yankees look like a ship to jump off of these days, and the Cubs job is a good landing spot. It has the "Francona" potential....he can be forever if he guides the Cubs to a WS win.

If he' smart (which I think he is) - he's asking questions to the Yankee brass about what type of moves the Yankees are planning to make. If he hears more build the roster with 'retreads-reject', he most definitely should say been there, done that, and can't win with that.

That's been my feeling as well. Win another title with the Yankees - change your number to 29. Win a title with your hometown, 100+ years since-their-last-title-Cubs - Girardi becomes immortal. He gets a statue next Michael Jordan, he becomes even more popular than Ditka, and the guy gets all the free pork chops and applesauce that any guy from Chicago could possibly want.
 
He said after the season ended that Money wouldn't be the deciding factors. With that said, I do think Girardi has a sense of history. The man who turns the Cubs around will be royalty. Coupled with this other point which I feel hasn't been taken into consideration. With Mo and Andy out of the clubhouse, and the Arod drama, I know some will say that comes with New York, but I think a pure baseball guy is bothered by that. I want Joe to return, the thought of who would we get is disturbing, but if I was betting, I would bet that with each day that goes by, the Cubs become real, and if he hasn't accepted the contract by the end of the period, then he is either lying about the money, or he really is intrigued by the Cubs potential compared to the current state of the Yankees.

Yes. It just doesnt look like a whole lotta fun to be a yankee these days. Joe G isnt nearly as loved or revered in NY as Joe Torre was, and even he seemed to get burnt out with all the drama after a while.

Hit the nail on the head. I sometimes wonder if during the season Girardi grabbed Cashman by the stacking swivel and said I need this or I need that.

If there's one thing I was hoping Girardi did this year, which apparently he did not was beat the shit out Cashman and steal his lunch $$$.
 
I still have visions of a mob of angry Yankee Fans going into Cashmans Office and lynching him outside of the Stadium Main entrance.

The Yankees cannot let Girardi get away. He's a players mgr. I mean what other mgr would have sub 100 hitting Fransico in the top of the line up. Or even give him a chance at cleanup? No one that's who. And what other mgr would have so much faith in 2 losers like Hughes & Joba by constantly giving them the ball? No one that's who. He's a players mgr. And who else would put a 220 hitting catcher in the line up game after game after game? No one. And who else would keep giving someone like Wells a chance? No one that's who.

I could go on raving about this terrific manager but the point is the players love him & after all isn't that what's really important?

I am indifferent to joe, but I don't know why u kill him for using the shit players Cashman handed him. Who is he supposed to play? He has no catcher worth spit all year. He had no starters to turn to besides what he had. Joba was reduced to mop up duty. The roster was severly flawed. Blame Cashman, not the guy trying to piee together wins with the shit he was shoveled.

I'm sure that is just to ensure they "interview" enough candidates to avoid speculation (if they even can)... they want Girardi and have made it clear that they want him...

I don't doubt that... and wasn't saying you were wrong... I am saying that the Cubs are just doing that knowing who they really want...
 
At the end of the day I don't see him walking away from a Yankee contract to go manage the Cubs.
 
If he is hemming and hawing this much over it... might be time to go in a new direction... this should be a position that people WANT... not something to debate... If the reports are true and he's being offered $12M over 3 years, that is a 33% raise... if it is the other number reported ($15M), it's a 67% raise... Either take the money and run or run... it shouldn't be as hard a decision as he's making it out to be...

If it's about the money, Cubs already said they would pay more, so logically that means the Cubs...

If it's about your place in baseball history, IF he wins another with NY, he'd be tied for 5th on most WS championships with the team... McCarthy has 7 ('32, '36, '37, '38, '39, '41, & '43), Stengel has 7 ('49, '50, '51, '52, '53, '56, & '58), Torre has 4 ('96, '98, '99, & 2000), Huggins has 3 ('23, '27, & '28), and Houk has 2 ('61 & '62). Right now he's just another manager for the Yankees who has won a WS... Cubs haven't won since 1908... He would be a god there if he won... up there with Jordan and above Ditka...

The only possibly way I see him staying as manager of the Yankees is if he is as much a family man as it is claimed he is.... if he is that, he probably wouldn't want to uproot his family, especially kids who are in school... But perhaps he might feel that money will ease that pain...
 
...he's still got 3 weeks before his contract expires. If he still has not said yes to the Yanx by the 31st, I'm guessing he probably won't be back. But at this point, I would not rush him or give him an ultimatum.
