The D-Fenders beat the Erie BayHawks 107-93 tonight in El Segundo, CA.
Justin Hawkins scored a career-high 43 points for the D-Fenders (21-16). Vander Blue (20 points), Josh Magette (13 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds), Ryan Gomes (12 points, 8 rebounds) and Michael Holyfield (10 points, 6 rebounds) all scored in double-figures for Los Angeles.
Keith Appling (21 points) paced the BayHawks (11-25). John Bohannon (14 points, 16 rebounds), Branden Dawson (13 points), Tyler Harvey (13 points), Alex Davis (10 points) and Eric Atkins (10 points) all reached double-digits for Erie.
Hawkins got going early for Los Angeles, scoring 21 points (7/9 FG) in the first quarter to push the D-Fenders to a 24-14 lead. The D-Fenders outscored the BayHawks 30-25 in the second quarter behind seven points from Hawkins and six apiece from Gomes and Magette. At the half, The D-Fenders led 64-39.
The third quarter was all Erie, who outscored Los Angeles 35-19 in the third behind 10 points from Appling. Blue had 11 points for the D-Fenders, who led 83-74 heading into the final frame. Hawkins put this one away in the fourth, scoring 11 points (4/5 FG) to finish with a career-high 43. Los Angeles outscored Erie 24-19 in the fourth to hold on to a 107-93 victory.
The D-Fenders shot .409 from the field compared to .458 for the BayHawks. Erie connected on just 1-of-9 three point attempts, while Los Angeles shot 8-of-26. The D-Fenders forced 17 turnovers, while committing 13.
Los Angeles hosts the Idaho Stampede on Saturday at 6:30pm PT in El Segundo.
