Nov. 10 - 7:06 pm et A source told ESPN's Buster Olney that the Rangers bid about $22 million for Daisuke Matsuzaka, with the intention of offering a contract of five years and $50 million if the they had the top bid.Olney is still saying that he thinks the Red Sox, at $38 million-$45 million, won the bidding, but he's also still the only one making the claim. The Seibu Lions might hold off until next week making an announcement on whether they're accepting the bid, a proclamation that would trigger an announcement from MLB revealing the winning bidder.Source: ESPN.com Nov. 10 - 1:20 pm et ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting that, according to MLB officials who are monitoring the bidding, the Red Sox may have posted the top bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka, with a figure between $38 million and $45 million. We find that pretty hard to believe. Something in the neighborhood of $40 million would be crazy with Scott Boras talking about a three-year deal and a clause that would make him a free agent at the end of the contract. Anyone committing that much would have to know it had Matsuzaka for at least five or six years at a fairly reasonable rate.
